Psycheground ~ 1971 ~ Psychedelic And Underground Music

    genre: psych

    country: italy

quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, scans)

    time: 33'14" size: 206 mb

    Moviegrooves.com:

"Limited edition (500 copies) reissue of the ultra-rare, ultra-cool jazzy and groovy Psychedelic and Underground Music LP that was released in 1971 by the small Lupus label. Behind the name The Psycheground Group hid the musicians of Nuova Idea, in their first line-up. The album is all instrumental, composed of five long tracks, in the same style as Blue Phantom or The Underground Set, and had in common with the latter group the name of Ninety (producer Giampiero Reverberi) behind them. Reverberi composed the whole album, which was recorded in his own studio.”

    Cosmic Dreams:

A one-off "have fun" project led by Achim Reichel. In 1972 he teamed up with some old friends from Rattles (the renowned beat-group of which he was a member from 1961 to 1968). Together they made an album of heavy boogie and glitter rock. Let Us Live Together featured ten jolly rockin' tracks and was quite well received by the German press. After this, Reichel soon returned to his much more experimental solo projects, such as A.R. & Machines. On the other hand, Hildebrandt and Tarrach formed Randy Pie & Family with Bernd Schulz and Klaus-Georg Meyer (two other former Rattles-members).

    Projekct Two ~ 1998 ~ Space Groove

    genre: prog

    country: uk

quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, booklet scans)

    time: 38`51" + 51`34" size: 547 mb

    Wiki:

From 1997 to 1999, the band King Crimson "fraKctalised" into four sub-groups known as the ProjeKcts, one of which was ProjeKct Two.

ProjeKct Two featured members Robert Fripp (guitar), Trey Gunn (Warr guitar, talker) and Adrian Belew (V-drums). It was the second of the ProjeKcts to be planned, thus its name, but the first to play and record. Belew is the lead vocalist and a guitarist in King Crimson, but in ProjeKct Two he plays V-drums, a type of electronic drum kit. This configuration was unplanned, but when the group gathered at Belew's home studio to record, he had recently taken possession of the V-drums and Fripp was keen to experiment with their use. The group enjoyed the results enough that it was decided to keep this configuration for the whole course of the project.

Space Groove, recorded over three days (19-21 November 1997), was a double CD of improvisations performed in the studio during the band's first sessions together. They toured in USA, UK, Japan and Canada between February and July 1998, playing new material and some King Crimson pieces including "Dinosaur" and "VROOOM." The Deception of the Thrush later became part of the repertoire of ProjeKcts Three and Four and King Crimson.

Peter And Gordon ~ 1964 ~ Peter And Gordon

    genre: beat

quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, scans)

    time: 1:02'23"/2 size: 318 mb

    misc: 1999

    Tapestry Of Delights:

This pleasant, unassuming pop duo is clearly a marginal case for inclusion here so I've only covered them briefly. Peter Asher was born in London on 22nd June 1944, the son of a Wimpole Street doctor. Gordon was a doctor's son, too, although his mother had evacuated north to Braemer in Scotland during the war, where he was born on 4th June 1945. The two met at Westminster Boys' School. They eventually secured a recording contract with EMI and since Paul McCartney was going out with Peter's sister the duo pestered him to write them a song. The result was World Without Love and it gave them an instant No 1. They followed up with another McCartney composition, Nobody I Know, which also made No 10. However, their third McCartney composition, I Don't Want To See You Again, flopped completely. They wrote some of their 'B' sides and bounced back with a cover of Buddy Holly's True Love Ways, which made No 2 in the UK and No 14 in the USA. They were enormously successful in the USA where Capitol issued ten albums of their material plus a 'Best Of' collection in just four years. In 1966 their version of Lady Godiva won them some notoriety, getting banned in Lady Godiva's home town of Coventry, but their music didn't really suit the psychedelic era and they split in the Autumn of 1968. Peter became A&R manager at The Beatles' newly-formed Apple Records and later managed and produced James Taylor, whom he discovered. Gordon Waller embarked on a solo career and played Pharaoh in the 'Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat' movie in the mid-seventies. Today Peter is an LA-based producer and Gordon, a South Midlands businessman.

    Peacepipe ~ 1995 ~ John Uzonyi's Peacepipe

    genre: heavy psych

    country: us

quality: lossless (ape, cue, log, booklet scans)

    time: 50'27" size: 368 mb

    misc: 2002, recordings '68-'69

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:

Uzonyi formed the band with Tsuruda in the mid-sixties whilst they were still at High School. In 1968 they headed for Hollywood and recorded two tracks; The Sun Won't Shine Forever and Lazy River Blues, which were released on a 45 by Accent. After school Uzonyi joined the U.S. Air Force and was based in Tucson, Arizona. There he met Rick Abts who joined Jon and Gary to form The Human Equation. They gigged around the U.S. West but disbanded in 1969 to pursue non-musical careers. Shortly after, though, they reformed to record the tunes, which 26 years later found their way onto a Rockadelic's Peacepipe album. (Jon shelved the project at the time). The result is some stunning psychedelic rock with the opening track Sea Of Nightmares especially ear-catching. On side two, A Biker's Tune features some superb psychedelic guitar work and Open Your Mind culminates in more guitar histrionics. The final track Love Shine is much more mellow by contrast.

    genre: heavy

quality : lossless (flac, cue, log, scans)

    time: 1:10'15" size: 425 mb

    issue: 1999

    Tapestry Of Delights:

Simper had earlier been involved with Deep Purple and prior to that, Johnny Kidd and The Pirates. The Warhorse album sounded a lot like Deep Purple at the time but didn't make much impression. Their debut 45, St Louis, a cover of an Easybeats' song sold pretty well though. Their second album, Red Sea, was much more guitar-orientated. There's a notable guitar solo on Back In Time and there's also a cover version of Shirley Bassey's I (Who Have Nothing). The band built up audiences on the Continent but failed to stir many people here and disbanded in 1974.

At the end of the seventies Simper formed Nick Simper's Fandango. Poole was later in Broken Glass and did session work. Wilson made an album with Melvyn Gale in 1980. Holt later worked with Rick Wakeman. Much later in 1980, Parker played with Dirty Looks.

    Crack in the Cosmic Egg:

These originated as a psychedelic hard-rock band from Essen in the early-1970's fronted by multi-instrumentalist Rolf Trenkler. Undocumented at the time the CD release THE X-TAPES presents an amateurish band that had promise, but never made it.

Much later, with only one member in common: Winifried Rьger, their inclusion on a festival LP documents them as a riffing jazz-rock band, with saxophone and guitar lead, in the realms of Nucleus and Soft Machine. Lively, effervescent and full of solos. How some bands change! We are still to find out what Virgin's Dream debut album SOPHISTY is like, although it is reputedly excellent jazz-rock. After this, Martin Engelien went to Noctett.
