    Kennėlmus ~ 1971 ~ Folkstone Prism
    genre: psych
    country: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, booklet scans)
    time: 37'25"  size: 261 mb
    misc.: 1999

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
From Phoenix, Arizona, Ken Walker and Bob Narloch played as a duo originally in the sixties. Kennélmus was formed in 1970 and their two albums were recorded between 1970-72 in recording engineers' Chuck Hauke's studio using two Ampex 351-2 two track recorders. Even the Rockadelic reissue of the first album is becoming hard to find. This is the better of the two. The main attraction being the rarity rather than the music. Side one of the album is instrumental and while some of the tracks are in a primitive hard rock style not unlike Hootch, others are very dense and beautiful. The vocal tracks are very quirky and strangely recorded - it's clear that Kennélmus spent a great deal of time knob-twiddling in their studio! While the results are obviously mixed, the album is recommended.

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Kaleidoscope's music was so wide-ranging it is difficult to categorise. Not surprisingly therefore, all of their albums have become obscure collectors items. However, compilations of material from their first three albums are now available, and all the original albums have been reissued on CD.
An explanation for the range of this group's music can be found in the backgrounds of its personnel. Lindley, born in LA, had previously played with a number of bands, including The New Christy Minstrels and The Greenwood Singers and had also played banjo for several labels. He formed the group in September 1966. They initially called themselves The Baghdad Blues Band. Feldthouse originated from Ismit in Turkey and played a wide range ot exotic instruments which included the sax bouzoukee, dobro, vina, doumbeg and dulcimer as well as the more mundane 12 string guitar and fiddle. He was responsible for the Eastern influence on tracks like Egyptian Gardens, Why Try and Keep Your Mind Open on their first album. Darrow was born in South Dakota, but raised in Claremont, California. His musical taste encompassed bluegrass, country, blues, jug band, R&B and old time jazz. Percussionist, Vidican, grew up in Hollywood and Epp was from Oklahoma City. Apart from the Eastern-influenced songs, other tracks on their first album included the traditional Come On In, Oh Death and the offbeat Minnie The Moocher. Another cut Please was chosen as the 'A' side for their first single with a non-LP track, Elevator Man. a more straight ahead rock track with some superb guitar playing from Lindley, on the flip. The single went nowhere. Next off they tried are mixed version of Why Try and a version of Little Orphan Annie, written by Darrow and Epp, which later tumed up on the Bernice album in a very different form. However, this 45 made no commercial impression either.

    Quetev Meriri ~ 2008 ~ Quetev Meriri
    genre: avant folk
    country: israel
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, scans)
    time: 44'27"  size: 253 mb

    headheritage's review:
One of the most intriguing trios to emerge in a long while must be Israel’s Quetev Meriri, whose self-titled debut is just out now on the Gush Punk label. In just 44 minutes of degraded free noise, Ashkenáze mouth music, ritualistic avant-Kletzmorim ritual and droning back porch meanderings, Quetev Meriri create an amazing and alienating travelogue soundtrack that successfully celebrates the lives of such Jewish notables as Marxist philosophers Rosa Luxemburg and Walter Benjamin, theologians Franz Rosenzweig and Emmanuel Levinas, and Serbian poet Vasko Popa; and all achieved via bizarre instrumental themes and heady Hebrew vocal harmonies. Except for the MEET THE RESIDENTS-plays-Trumpton theme of ‘Franz Rosenzweig’, Quetev Meriri’s massed accordions, post-punk guitars, slapped banjos, percussion devices and triple voices conspire to create an amazing stew of sound the like of which I’ve never before encountered. If you want your mind blown but cannot afford the time off work (or the black market price of general anaesthetic), score this truly essential sucker from the aforementioned Gush Punk label, and pronto, Tonto.
