Kopperfield ~ 1974 ~ Tales Untoldgenre: heavy psych
    country: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 1:19'21" size: 436 mb

    Fuzz Acis & Flowers:
From Edwardsberg and Ann Arbor, Michigan comes this typical keyboard/guitar driven progressive era item. Acceptable but by no means essential or even innovative in any way. You could be forgiven for thinking that the best thing about it is the rather striking cover. All the songs were written and arranged by the band. Jimmey Robinson was responsible for the lyrics on 10 of the 11 tracks. Chuck Eagan was the lyricist on Anatomy. ~ (Vernon Joynson/Stephane Rebeschini)

quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers,
     size: 259 mb)
    time: 47'22"
    misc: reissue as Barricades.

    Tapestry of Delights:
They were formed in Liverpool in 1962 during the latter part of the Merseybeat boom and were managed by Brian Epstein. Ellis and O'Riley had previously been with The Thunderbeats. Morris and Leatherwood were in The Midnighters. Despite appearing in Ferry Across The Mersey and touring with The Beatles in 1965, none of their numerous singles for Columbia and Pye reached the Charts. They cut two confident singles for Pye: the first was a Kim Weston Motown track; the second You'd Better Make Up Your Mind, can also be heard on Pictures In The Sky. In Spring 1966 they switched to EMI Columbia.
Keith Ellis went on to Van der Graaf Generator briefly. Stu Leatherwood was later in March Hare.

Kensington Market ~ 1968a ~ Avenue Roadgenre: psych
    country: canada
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers,
     size: 197 mb)
    time: 30'04"

    Dreams Fantasies & Nightmares:
Hailing from Toronto, Ontario, (they were named after a downtown neighbourhood there), their first 45 was rather punkish but most of their material is in the pop/rock mould. Of both albums, Aardvark is definitely the superior one. The group mixed many clearly Canadian sounds and arrangements into a sometime psych-pop, sometime folk, sometime Cream-acid-rock format which was always entertaining. The first album, Avenue Road, was definitely more poppy and less representative of their live concerts. In Canada (or at least in Toronto), Kensington Market were considered Canada's answer to the Jefferson Airplane. Shades of progressive rock start creeping in on Aardvark's last piece, Dorian (co-written with Pappalardi), where odd, post-psychedelic chords strode alongside an acid/R'n'B rave-up section.
After the group split up in 1969 (barely after the release of their second album), bassist Alex Darou retreated to his apartment, not answering anyone's calls. Known for his bouts of depression, the other band members broke down his door to find him dead from malnutrition. It is assumed he was fasting, and went too far.
Gibson had earlier played with Luke and The Apostles and joined in 1967. He went on to form The Luke Gibson Band and recorded for True North records, a label created by Bernie Finkelstein, who was also Kensington Market's manager. His album was produced by ex-band-member Gene Martynec, who'd become a regular producer for the label. In November 1972 he was considered for the vocal spot in Seatrain. Martynec later played with Silver Tractors and went on to do session and production work.
Kensington Market's albums have been likened to The Beau Brummels - pleasant melodic pop/rock. They were produced by Felix Pappalardi of Mountain fame. Jimmy Watson was a cousin of Van Morrison. They also secured a couple of Canadian hits. ~ (Vernon Joynson/GB)

Peter Kelley ~ 1969 ~ Path Of The Wavegenre: psych folk
    country: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 36'50" size: 169 mb

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
This East Coast singer songwriter went largely unnoticed at the time but his two albums are worth a spin. The first one is folk-psych with almost whispered vocals. Songs range from Dylanesque ballads to the monster cut The Man Is Dead (6'56") with fuzz guitar. Other cuts include High Flyin' Mama, Childhood's Hour, and a cover of Rhinoceros' Apricot Brandy.
Danny Federici went on to play with Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band.
Housed in a nice textured cover, Dealer's Blues is, as its title indicates, more blues oriented and is a superb album combining white blues, folk and rock. It was produced by Richard Gottehrer (ex-Strangeloves). ~ (Stephane Rebeschini)

Karthago ~ 1971 ~ Karthagogenre: heavy psych boogie
    country: germany
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 35'12" size: 232 mb

    Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
It would seem that BASF were really pleased to sign Karthago up, as their debut LP had the most extraordinary multi-fold-out cover. The album was a fine example of the genre, with many excellent tracks, yet unbefitting such crazily psychedelic artwork!

    Kaleidoscope ~ 1969 ~ Kaleidoscopegenre: psych
    country: mexica
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 32'58" size: 190 mb

    Dreams Fantasies & Nightmares:
A highly-regarded Mexican garage-psych album. Originally only two-hundred copies were pressed, back in 1969. This was probably the result of a one-off deal with Orfeon to see if the Mexican public could latch on to the new sounds. Unfortunately, they didn't, so the record was never pressed at the time in large quantities.
Thanks to its recent limited edition reissue, you can hear this album again in all its glory without taking out a second mortgage and you shouldn't be disappointed. All the lyrics are in English. The best tracks are Hang Out, a garage-punker with a fine organ intro and some sound effects; P.S. Come Back, an uptempo, organ-led, garage punker, Let Me Try, featuring more great garage organ which builds into a climax; Colours, (possibly its magnum opus) with superb whispered vocals, guitar / organ interplay and sound effects and the lengthier Once Upon A Time There Was A World, which features longer periods of guitar / organ interplay and a (spoken) vocal style similar to California's Maze. Recommended.

    country: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers,
     size: 292 mb)
    time: 44'12"

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Greenboro in North Carolina seems to have been home for this band. The album's not essential to fans of garage, psychedelia or hippie rock, but they do sound competent musicians. It's really a progressive with quite a lot of brass and woodwind and the occasional mellow instrumental like Jimmy's Song and Rainbows.

    July ~ 1968 - July + 1968 ~ The Second Of Julygenre: psych
    country: uk
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 1:15'31" size: 442 mb

    Tapestry of Delights:
They started out as a skiffle act from Ealing, called The Playboys and then became a R&B combo The Tomcats. John (Speedy) Keen was in them for a while. In 1966, The Tomcats went to Spain with a new line-up (the future July one). As Los Tomcats, they got in the Charts with four EPs, one of which was all in Spanish! They returned to the UK in 1968, still basing themselves in Ealing.
July recorded what has become one of the most sought-after British psychedelic sixties albums. Twenty-five years on time has not been kind to all the tracks (e.g. Jolly Mary) but overall it's well worth purchasing for its eerie brand of psychedelia (on Dandelion Seeds and My Clown) and some fine psychedelic guitar work (Crying Is For Writers). More accessible are the Bam-Caruso reissue, which was put out in a different sleeve, and the Aftermath CD reissue. Both also include the second 45, which wasn't on the first album. Duhig and Field went on to be in Jade Warrior and Tom Newman later released solo albums on Virgin and Decca. He also set up Branson's Manor Studios and engineered Tubular Bells I and II. Duhig was also later in Assagai. Alan James went on to play for Cat Stevens, Duffy Power, Neil Innes and Kevin Coyne. They were managed by Spencer Davis. ~ (Vernon Joynson / Anuj Goyal/Marcelo Lilienheim)
