    Svanfridur ~ 1972 ~ What's Hidden There?genre: prog
    state: iceland
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 40:12 size: 291 mb

    progarchives:
Hailing from Iceland, SVANFRIDUR were a four-piece who in the summer of 1972 recorded a single album, titled "What's Hidden There?". The album, recorded in London and released at the time only in a few dozen copies, can be considered one of the most interesting examples of heavy progressive rock mixed with influences from local folk music. SVANFRIDUR's compositions feature complex vocal harmonies and an original, inventive use of violin and Moog synthesizers, courtesy of guest musician and arranger Sigurdur Johnsson.  ~ Raff (Raffaella)

Supertramp ~ 1971 ~ Indelibly Stamped Real Covergenre: pop, prog related
    state: uk
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 40:38 size: 256 mb

    Fuzz Avid & Flowers:
The second album by progressive rock band Supertramp, released in 1971. It marked a dramatic change in direction to a more straightforward rock sound, and by admission of the band's own liner notes, "Travelled" is the only song with any resemblance to their debut album. Like their debut, this album was a commercial failure upon release; however, in later decades it went gold in France and Canada. Original editions have a colour gate-fold cover and different text for the band name and album title. The cover photograph features the tattooed torso and arms of a topless woman. This is the first Supertramp album issued in the U.S.; the cover was in colour (in 1971), but A&M pasted two gold stars over the nipples.

Sunday Funnies ~ 1971 ~ Sunday Funniesgenre: psych
    state: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 30:57 size: 216 mb

    Fuzz Avid & Flowers:
From Detroit and unrelated to the L.A. outfit of A Pindaric Ode fame. Their two albums were produced by Andrew Oldham and are reputedly more prog and gospel rock than psych oriented. The first features organ dominated rock with softer numbers like It's Just A Dream and You And I amongst its better offerings. The Benediction album is an improvement, with a strong religious content and a fine sleeve by Matti Klarwein (Abraxas, Miles Davis etc.).
Richard Kosinski would later form the Big Wha Koo with Danny Douma from the Hello People. ~

Sugar Creek ~ 1969 ~ Please Tell A Friendgenre: heavy rhythm and bluespsych
    state: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 36:10 size: 223 mb

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
For the most part this is a very average blues rock album, but there are a few more psychedelic cuts:- the opener, A Million Years is a heavy psychedelic cut; Memory Tree, a much softer slice of psychedelia and the finale, Night Flash.
The album was recorded in NYC, although the band is thought to be from Massachusetts.
Jonathan Edwards later a long solo career of singer/songwriter a lá James Taylor, recording more than fifteen albums. ~ (Vernon Joynson / Max Waller / Stephane Rebeschini)

quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 41:46 size: 277 mb

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
A short-lived San Francisco-based outfit whose album was partly recorded in London. Stephens had previously been with Blue Cheer and two musicians were British: Pete Sears was a session musician and Waller had come from The Jeff Beck Group. The album is basically heavy rock with splatterings of psychedelia. It included three Elton John/Bernie Taupin compositions: Country Comfort, Now They've Found Me and Sixty Years On.
Leigh Stephens also had a solo career and in 1972 would form Pilot with Waller. Pete Sears would later play with Rod Stewart but also with SteamhammerStoneground and Jefferson Starship. He also played with John Cipollina and Hot Tuna. ~ (Vernon Joynson / Stephane Rebeschini)

the Sub ~ 1970 ~ In Concertgenre: heavy psych, prog
    state: germany
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers)
    time: 62:06 size: 375 mb

    Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
Formed in Munich in early-1969, originating from various local beat groups, Sub chose their name due to their affinity with the underground scene that was proliferating at the time. Though, unlike Amon Düül's brand of underground music, Sub were much more inspired by American psychedelia, notably Vanilla Fudge, and British bands like Traffic, Egg and Soft Machine. They had a heavy riffing psychedelic style, an excellent lead vocalist, and knew how to jam and freak-out.
Strangely, fed up with waiting for a contract, an employee of Sub's management, made off with the tapes of their album, getting it released in Italy. Masquerading as a live album, complete with overdubbed audience sounds, IN CONCERT was still a fine album, showcasing a style of music that's little-heard from Germany. Only about a thousand were pressed, and in Germany they were still stuck with apathetic reactions, not knowing they had an LP out there. Sub split in 1971

String Driven Thing ~ 1973 ~ The Machine That Criedgenre: folk, prog
    state: uk
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers, 326 mb)
    time: 51:38

    wikipedia:
A second album, The Machine That Cried, was recorded in February 1973 at IBC, but now with the addition of a drummer, Billy "The Kid" Fairley. This was a much bleaker and rockier offering and though reviews were mixed at the time, it is now regarded as a forgotten classic. Standout tracks include "Heartfeeder", "The Machine That Cried" and "Sold Down The River". The song "Night Club", which opened Side Two, was inspired by the cover of their first Charisma album, designed by Hipgnosis, famous for their work with Pink Floyd. Recorded while Chris Adams was suffering health problems, including a collapsed lung and depression, the album is on the whole a very dark affair. Despite its cult status, it did not sell well at the time.

Streetmark ~ 1977a ~ Dreamsgenre: neo prog, space
    state: germany
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers, 268 mb)
    time: 44:25

    progarchives:
STREETMARK was founded 1968 in Düsseldorf, when Dorothea Raukes, who had studied Classical Music and played keyboards, met the Brothers Thomas and Bernd Schreiber, both guitarists. Dorothea and Thomas formed the nucleus of the band. In the beginning STREETMARK played mainly covers of the BEATLES, Jon Mayall and DEEP PURPLE. In 1969 they refused a proposal for a record deal. In the following five years STREETMARK developed their own style mainly based on the compositions of Dorothea and Thomas, influenced by PROCOL HARUM, FOCUS and ELP. Finally in 1975 STREETMARK recorded their debut record "Nordland" for Sky. The record was produced and recorded by Connie Plank with the following line up : Dorothea Raukes (keyboards), Thomas Schreiber (guitar), Hans Schweiss (drums), Georg Buschmann (vocals), Wolfgang Westphal (bass). Bernd Schreiber did the mixing and Soundboard duties.
"Nordland" was a brillant debut record, the band had taken the time to play the compositions live and to work them out. The general musicianship is quite high; the only weak point, as often in German bands are the English vocals. In 1977 STREETMARK released their second record "Eileen" with Wolfgang Riechmann, a solo recording artist, who had joined the band on vocals and keyboards. Tragically he was murdered in 1978, before the release of his solo record "Wunderbar". Sky re-released "Eileen" in 1979 with the new title "Wolfgang Riechmann and Streetmark" with one bonus track. Later on the record was renamed "Dreams". The third (fourth) record "Dry", entirely instrumental, was released in 1979. In 1981 STREETMARK released their last record "Sky Racer", with Dorothea Raukes as the only founding member left. It is still an interesting record but much more Pop influenced.
"Nordland" and "Eileen (Dreams)" are highly recommended.

Stray Dog ~ 1973 ~ Stray Doggenre: hard, blues
    state: uk/us

quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers, 262 mb)
    time: 38:32

    wikipedia:
The band originally formed in Texas under the name "Aphrodite". They moved to Denver, Colorado, where they became very popular. They were introduced to Neville Chesters, a former Road Manager for Emerson, Lake & Palmer, who convinced the band to go to London where, along with a friend and a former Tour Manager Lorenzio Mazzio, he introduced Snuffy Walden to Greg Lake, who signed them to ELP's label, Manticore Records. Randy Reader was replaced by Leslie Sampson. Lake produced three tracks on the 1973 debut self-titled album, Stray Dog, with the band producing the remainder.
In March 1973, the British music magazine, NME, reported that Stray Dog were to support ELP on their world tour, which was due to commence in Germany at the end of that month.
Stray Dog's follow-up album, While You're Down There (1974), was co-produced by Austin Godsey and the band, which featured new members Tim Dulaine on second guitar and vocals, and keyboardist Luis Cabaza. The additions of Dulaine and Cabaza radically changed the band's sound from blues-based power trio to a more subdued and commercial AOR rock sound. Much of the material on While You're Down There was written and sung by Dulaine, with founder Walden's contributions being reduced. Only two tracks, "I Would" and the instrumental "Worldwinds", retained a sound and stylistic approach reminiscent of their debut.
Sampson had played previously in another power trio, Road, with Noel Redding, and American guitarist Rod Richards. They produced one self-titled 1972 album on the Rare Earth label. After the demise of Stray Dog, Walden went on to write and produce the theme songs for several popular American television programs.
