    country: uk
    quality : mp3 (256k, scans)

    size: 75 mb

    Tapetry:
This progressive rock outfit formed in 1971 in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. They were originally known as Shacklock after their founder member Alan Shacklock (ex-Juniors), but adopted the name Babe Ruth after the legendary American baseball player after the release of their debut album. The album didn't make much impression here in the UK but went gold in Canada.
Ed Spevock (ex-Pete Brown's Piblokto) and Chris Holmes (ex-Timebox) both joined the group for their second album.
Steve Gurl, formerly of Wild Turkey, was added to the line-up shortly prior to the release of their third album which climbed to No 75 in the US Charts. The band was now under considerable demand to tour the US but these demands gradually brought about their demise. Firstly, their founder Alan Shacklock left to be replaced by Bernie Marsden (who was also formerly with Wild Turkey and UFO), and then after the Stealin' Home album had met with some success here in the UK both Jenny Haan and Dave Hewitt left in short succession. Ray Knott and Ellie Hope, who'd played with an obscure girl group Ellie, were enlisted in their place and this line-up recorded Kid's Stuff, which proved to be their final album, aside from the obligatory Best Of compilation. Finally Alan Ross replaced Bernie Marsden just before the band split in '76.
After their demise Bernie Marsden went on to play for Whitesnake; Janita 'Jenny' Haan formed her own band, Jenny Haan's Lion; and both Ray Knott and Ellie Hope were in Liquid Gold in the late 70s. Ellie Hope also later recorded a solo single.
Janita 'Jenny' Haan also sang on Strider's 1974 album, Misunderstanding.

    amazing flight

    ProgArchives:
BABY GRANDMOTHERS is said to be one of the most prolific bands of the late 60s in Sweden. Hailing from Stockholm they were formed out of the beat band T-BOONES which started in 1965, had success with producing some singles and drifted into the psychedelia sound more and more. The first line-up consisted of Pelle Ekman (drums), Göran Malmberg (bass) and Kenny Håkansson (guitar) but Malmberg was soon replaced by Bengt 'Bella' Linnarsson.
The band can be treated as ahead of time with a progressive experimental orientation playing long, mainly improvised songs oriented at Cream and Jimi Hendrix. Some of them were placed on a compilation which was released in 2007 by the swedish Subliminal label. They were recorded at the legendary 'Filips' club, a breeding ground for new experimental bands at that time. BABY GRANDMOTHERS also jammed with Mothers Of Invention and supported The Jimi Hendrix Experience on their Scandinavian tour at the turn of the year 1967/68.
In March 1968 the band headed off to Finland for some concerts and in between they managed to record their one and only single 'Somebody keeps calling my name / Being is more than life'. The two songs are part of the 2007 compilation as well as one live track from the Finland tour. BABY GRANDMOTHERS turned into the reincarnated MECKI MARK MEN afterwards when collaborating with keyboarder Mecki Bodemark. They became the first swedish rock band touring the US. Later the original members went on to form the psych/folk band KEBNEKAJSE.

    Tapestry of Delights:

Born in London in 1940 and standing 6 feet 7 inches tall this guy cut a commanding figure. He also played a significant role in the development of British R&B and blues.

He began singing in folk clubs and coffee bars in the late fifties and in 1961 fronted Alexis Korner's Blues Incorporated. He appeared on Korner's R&B At The Marquee album the following year. After spending some time on the Continent he returned to the UK in 1963 and became a member of Cyril Davies' All Stars. Davies sadly died in 1964 and Baldry became the band's leader, re-christening them The Hoochie Coochie Men. Rod Stewart was recruited as a second vocalist. The Long John's Blues album compiles recordings from this era.

Baldry's next venture was to help form Steampacket in 1965, although it was during this era that he recorded a number of mostly R&B style solo singles for United Artists, although some, like Cuckoo, were Tom Jones-ish. When Steampacket quit he formed a new backing group, Bluesology, which included a certain Reg Dwight (Elton John) among its members.

In 1967 he switched to Pye and with the change of labels came an abrupt change of style. Baldry now turned his back on his R&B and blues roots in favour of some pretty sickly easy-listening ballads. At first this brought him Chart success, most notably a No 1 with Let The Heartaches Begin but he couldn't sustain the momentum and most of his later career was spent as a cabaret artist.

    ItalianProg:
Little is known about this mysterious group, whose only good album has never been reissued on CD and often changed hands for incredible prices before people started to realise it's not a real italian 70's rarity. Even the year of recording is uncertain. Some say it is from 1974-75, and for this reason it's included here, but it seems more likely that it is from the mid 80's.
The album was printed in Canada with a german producer, the music is good organ and mellotron-led prog sung in italian with a strong foreign accent and often incomprehensible lyrics: this is almost certainly a foreign group, probably japanese, playing under fake italian names, and even the incredibly high number of errors in the cover notes and lyrics confirms this impression.
The line-up mentioned on the cover includes Tonino Leo Ucchi (vocals, bass, acoustic guitar, flute, keyboards), Antonio Sassada (guitar), Gianni Mazzi (keyboards) and Marcello Taddeo Matteotti (drums, percussion, keyboards).
The LP has also been reissued in Japan or Korea with a plain white cover.

    ItalianProg:

Formed in 1969 around brothers Gianni and Vittorio Nocenzi, both keyboard wizards, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso is a unique example of long professionalism and beautiful musicianship, still playing in the 2000's with the same enthusiasm they had thirty years before. Early line-ups comprised former Chetro & Co. guitarist Gianfranco Coletta (later replaced by Claudio Falco), bassist Fabrizio Falco and drummer Franco Pontecorvi (replaced by Mario Achilli). Some of these musicians had previously played with Gianni Nocenzi in Crash.

Their first recordings before a stable lineup were officially released not before 1989, in the Banco del Mutuo Soccorso three-track 12" and Donna Plautilla LP, but their real beginnings are with the entrance in 1971 of new members Di Giacomo, D'Angelo and Calderoni, all of them coming from the same band, Le Esperienze, and guitarist Marcello Todaro from Fiori di Campo.

The first album, simply called Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, housed in a large money box shaped cover, is still one of the most representative examples of the italian prog, with classical influences based on the twin keyboards interplay and the original voice of Francesco Di Giacomo. R.I.P. and Il Giardino del mago are among their best tracks ever, and Traccia has always been a live classic. Their live activity was constant and they supported the likes of Curved Air and Rory Gallagher when touring Italy, developing a large and dedicated following.

Pete Brown & Piblokto - 1970 - Things may come and Things may go out ... but the Art School Dance goes on Forevergenre: psych
    country: uk
quality : lossless (flac, cue, log, scans)
    time: 52'01" size: 322 mb
    issue: 1994

    Tapestry:
Brown formed Piblokto! after he'd been asked to leave Battered Ornaments. Piblokto's debut album was much more accessible than any of the Battered Ornaments' output. The title track was inventive; My Love's Gone Far Away featured some effective organ work; High Flying Electric Bird (from the 'B' side of their first 45) featured Brown on a Cornish slide whistle which sounded like a chirping bird; Firesong was a folky, relaxed number and the magnum opus was definitely the gentle Golden Country Kingdom. Overall the songs were more commercial than those on The Battered Ornaments' album.
By the time of the second album Steve Glover had replaced Bunn on bass. Overall this was a patchier effort, although the title track was one of its finest moments: beginning at a slow tempo it builds into an impressive climax and is full of atmosphere. The opening track, Aeroplane Head Woman, gives an impressive nod and wink in the direction of heavy rock and Station Song Platform Two is quite jazzy. Unfortunately, the instrumental Highland Song, which closed side one was too long and though the songs on side two were pleasant enough none were in any way exceptional. The album was housed in a clever sleeve which depicted Concorde and the Titanic sinking into the sea whilst thousands of baked beans escaped on rafts of toast!
After the release of the second album, Brown disbanded the band and put together a new line-up. This line-up recorded the Flying Hero Sandwich 45. When a deal for Piblokto! to tour the States fell through the band disintegrated. The My Last Band album is a compilation, which includes all their singles. After their demise Brown began a collaboration with Graham Bond.
