    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Hailing from Houston this was one of Texas' premier psychedelic bands. Their first 45 topped the Texan chart for five weeks and was selected for national distribution by Wand. It was not a national hit and nor were any of their subsequent efforts but all are now sought-after collectors' items. The album was also full of excellent psychedelic rockcuts like Flashback, Scoun da Be, You Make Me Shake and Pluto-Sept 31st. With Gibbons' Hendrix-like guitar work and freaky lyrics some of these are very trippy indeed. Others like Eclipse and Reclipse on the end of Side 2 were very experimental. The album remains rare although there were pirate repressings a few years back. The Eva compilation included all the album, the Moxie EP and their cover of The Beatles' I Want To Hold Your Hand. It does have a disadvantage though of poor sound quality.
The band lasted until 1970 when Moore and later Summers were drafted. Lanier Greig came in from Neal Ford and The Fanatics to fill the keyboard slot but by the end of 1970 the three remaining members had become the first ZZ Top line-up - Gibbons and Mitchell having enrolled at the University of Texas to avoid the draft. Gibbons' earlier bands had been Billy and The Ten Blue Flames, The Saints and The Coachmen.

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Formed in 1969 by Felix Pappalardi after the demise of Cream (he was their producer) and Leslie West (ex Vagrants), Mountain was one of the first successful hard rock acts, in the same style, not surprisingly, as Cream.
Although their apparent leader was the huge Leslie West, Pappalardi was in fact the bands musical director, producer and main songwriter. A respected musician, he began working in the mid-60s on the New York folk scene and played with Fred Neil, Tom Rush, Richard Farina and Richie Havens. He was also a producer and worked with The Youngbloods, Apple Pie Motherhood Band, Bo Grumpus, Hot Tuna, Devil's Anvil and Canada's Kensington Market.
One of their first appearances was the Woodstock Festival and two songs: Blood Of The Sun and Jack Bruce/Pete Brown's Theme For an Imaginary Western appeared on the Woodstock compilations.

    Tapestry of Delights:
An Irish group who formed in Dublin in 1972. Their album is very rare and expensive to obtain, some copies included a poster and naturally these fetch a little more. Their 45s are minor collectables too. Their blend of progressivism and Irish folk music is well worth seeking out so snap up the Little Wing reissue, which also includes both sides of their first 45 while you can.

    Tapestry of ... :

The talented Miles was born in Jarrow in Tyne and Wear on 23 April 1949. His first band was The Influence in the late sixties, who cut a 45 for Orange. They also included future Roxy Music member Paul Thompson and Vic Malcolm, who was later in Geordie.

When Influence went their separate ways, Miles set up his own John Miles Band, which was popular in the north-east but attracted little wider attention. Several singles were released on the Orange label including a version of Come Away Melinda, but it wasn't until he relocated to London in 1975 with bassist Bob Marshall that he began to experience the success he'd worked so hard for. After signing to Decca and adding first Barry Black and then Gary Moberly to his line-up he scored his first hit with High Fly, which was produced by Alan Parsons. His finest moment, though, was the follow-up, Music, an excellent melodic rock ballad, also produced by Alan Parsons (Miles was a guest vocalist for The Alan Parsons Project), which peaked at No 3 here. Both songs were also minor hits in the US, where he toured with Elton John. He continued to record well into the eighties but had only two further hits with Remember Yesterday and Slow Down (No 10 in 1977). His epic Music, which some unfairly labelled pretentious, became a shackle he could never break free of. Later he played with both Jimmy Page and Tina Turner.
