Fardon's real name was Don Maughn and he was born in Coventry and first caught the public eye as lead singer of The Sorrows. After their demise he had a soul act called Don Fardon and The Soul Machine, which had a good reputation as a live band. Then he embarked on a solo career enjoying a major hit with Indian Reservation and a minor hit with Belfast Boy.
