Tapestry of Delights:
Pickettywitch, which was named after a Cornish village, first caught the eye in 1969 when they appeared on ITV's 'Opportunity Knocks' singing Soloman Grundy, which was composed and arranged by Tony Macauley and John McLeod. The song appeared on the flip side to their debut 45, but it was the follow-up, That Same Old Feeling, that took them into the Charts. It also got to No 67 in the USA. A string of mostly Macauley-McLeod compositions followed but failed to attain the same commercial success and the group ended up on the cabaret circut, before splitting up. Polly Brown later went solo and got to No 43 in the UK Charts in 1974 with Up In A Puff Of Smoke. In the US it fared better climbing to No 16. She was later in a soul-reggae duo called Sweet Dreams.
