    Tapestry of Delights:

Reid was born in Huntingdon, England, in November 1949, forming Terry Reid and The Jaywalkers when he was just 15. After these two 45s, Terry was approached by Jimmy Page and asked to join Led Zeppelin. He had to decline because he was contracted to Columbia producer Mickie Most so he recommended Robert Plant instead. Thereafter Reid spent most of his time in America, where he recorded two albums in the late sixties:- Bang Bang You're Terry Reid and Superlungs. He returned briefly to the UK as a member of Arrival in 1969, but spent most of the seventies in America, recording just three albums:- River, Seed Of Memory and Rogue Waves.

The Hands Don't Fit The Glove contains the whole of his first album and his two 45s from 1967 and 1968 respectively. The album shows Reid to have been a powerful lead guitarist on tracks like Donovan's Superlungs My Supergirl, which can also be heard on the Psychedelic Dream compilation, and he also turns out reasonable covers of Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited and Lorraine Ellison's Stay With Me Baby. Of the two 45s, the first is a good soul-styled vocal performance, the second was poppier.

Terry also had a US-only album, Bang, Bang, You're Terry Reid in 1968, which has been reissued on CD (Beat Goes On BGOCD 164) in 1993. The album is full of cover versions of songs like Cher's Bang Bang, Gene Pitney's Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart, a long version of Donovan's Season Of The Witch and Eddie Cochran's Summertime Blues, which he combines into a long cut with his own composition, Writing On The Wall.

Seed Of Memory, which was produced by Graham Nash, was one of the best singer-songwriter albums of the seventies and is full of mood sounds with poignant lyrics - musically very much in the mode of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. It passed largely unnoticed at the time because ABC Records went bust within a few days of its release.

Reid was also offered the opportunity to join Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin yet ended up in neither.
