Preghiera di Sasso were from Abruzzo and formed around 1971. They played many of the festivals of the day and were active on the live local scene. Influenced by heavy English rock and prog instrumentals, and jazz-fusion, they ended up somewhere in the Duello Madre and Cincinnato territory as jamming, exploratory Italian jazz rock. This is pretty obscure stuff with only passable sound quality and is definitely for the deep RPI collector or jazz-prog fan. ~ Jim Russell / Finnforest
It was apparently common practice in Italy around late 60's and early 70's for record companies trying to launch new groups as foreign bands, giving the members fantasy names (as was the case with Flea on the Honey) or keeping the musicians' identities hidden, as for Circus 2000. This was also the case with Planetarium, a group that released no less than an album and two singles (both from the LP) at the same time, in 1971. Only the composer's name, A.Ferrari, is present on the label, but is not enough to identify the musicians.
An all instrumental album (with just some wordless vocal parts), this has some orchestrated arrangements and is generally in a soft prog soundtrack-like vein that's not much representative of the Italian prog sound. The best cuts are on side two, the hypnotic War and the 11-minute long elaborate title-track Infinity with prominent organ. The medium length album (around 36 minutes) included eight tracks, four of which appeared on single.
This album is now a minor collectable. It consists of self-penned soft folk-rock songs. Some, like Jack O'Legs are story songs. Others, like The Ballad Of Benjamin Bratt are very light-hearted. There are some nice melodies on this album, which is worth investigating for fans of this genre.
Richard Digance went on to become a well-known humorous folk artist and TV personality.
