Tapestry Of Delights: Complete with sleeve notes from John Peel came Velvett Fogg with a blend of their own compositions, like Yellow Cave Woman, The Delicate Wizard Of Gobsolob and Once Among The Trees, the story of a chase with strong sexual overtones. Plastic Man, a comment on politicians, and Owed To The Dip, an organ-dominated instrumental; and their own interpretative cover versions of The Bee Gee's New York Mining Disaster 1941 and Tim Rose's Come Away Melinda. Worth a listen, but don't pay a lot for it. Paul Eastment was later in Ghost. Organist Frank Wilson was a founding member of Warhorse.

Fuzz Acid & Flowers: This San Francisco five piece had in Jan Errico the novelty of one of the very few girl drummers at the time, aside from Honey Lantree of England's Honeycombs. Formed in 1964, they soon secured a residency at the Morocco Room in San Mateo, following in the footsteps of The Beau Brummels, who'd gone on to better things. Very early in the residency they were discovered by the co-owners of Autumn Records, Tom Donahue and Bobby Mitchell, who signed them to their label. Rick Dey soon departed to join The Wilde Knights and was replaced by an older bassist who was known to everyone simply as Ron. The band soon became a popular live attraction during the Spring of 1965 at all the teen nightclubs, teen fairs and Battles Of The Bands in Northern California's burgeoning music scene. Their first 45, I StilI Love You, was a jangly Beatles/Byrds'-type folk-rocker, which has since resurfaced on The Sound Of The Sixties and Nuggets, Vol. 7 compilations. It became a very minor hit peaking at No 84 and helped secure the band appearances on 'American Bandstand', 'the Lloyd Thaxton Show' and 'Where The Action Is'. They returned to the studio in October 1965 to record Tom Paxton's folk-rocker The Last Thing On My Mind. This has subsequently resurfaced on Nuggets, Vol. 7 and Sound Of The 60's:- San Francisco, Part 1. To help promote it they enjoined to a West Coast tour with The Yardbirds and The Beach Boys. Later in the Spring of 1966 they played at another Battle Of The Bands in L.A. where they and the Buffalo Springfield were the only paid bands. The competition was actually won by The Doors. By now Reese Sheets had left the band to be replaced by Jim Sawyers, who'd previously been with San Jose band The Other Side. Both sides of their first two Autumn 45s also appeared on the Autumn Single Box compilation. Big Beat's Dance With Me: The Autumn Teen Sound CD features two versions of I Still Love You and Anything whilst the Someone To Love CD features both sides of the 2nd 45 and two unreleased Jan Ashton tracks - About My Tears and Cold Dreary Morning (the latter also on Nuggets Vol. 7). ...

Scented Gardens Of The Mind:
Along with Evolution's album, I Can Fly (1971) has been one of the most sought after Spanish albums among the wealthiest collectors in the 90's. Unlike many others, the Barcelona band Pan & Regaliz undoubtedly deserve their legendary reputation!
They were first known as Agua De Regaliz and recorded one single in 1970. The A-side "Waiting In The Munsters Of Garden" [their spelling], included on the collection Mъsica Progressiverssiva Espaсola, was a true gem that was later re-recorded (and retitled) for the LP. The album is a psychedelic masterpiece, with a very surreal and ghostly atmosphere, comparable to Group 1850 and Pink Floyd (in their 1968 phase) but it also contains some glimpses of heavily mutilated Spanish folk-rock. "Today It's Raining" featured mouth harp (used in a very unusual manner) and mumbling voices in a long free passage. The slightly more coherent "I Can Fly" was a pinnacle of acid blues, a befitting soundtrack to Salvador Dali's most bizarre paintings.
The album ranks among the top five from Spain! I don't know what happened to the group, but their drummer later recorded with Jarka.

From ProgressiveRock :
Kraan had released two albums for the German Spiegelei label prior to this, their first international release. The band was formed in 1970 in their native Ulm, but the quickly migrated to Berlin. The band eventually settled at an artist's commune in Wintrup, also the name of their second album. Kraan featured the superb instrumental talents of bassist Hellmut Hattler, saxophonist Johannes "Alto" Pappert and brothers Jan (Friede) on drums and Peter (Wolbrandt) on guitar and vocals. Their third record, Andy Nogger, was their first recorded with legendary producer Conny Plank. As the excellent "Stars" demonstrates, Kraan had a highly energetic and original sound, somewhere between rock and jazz, but nowhere around the then current fusion. "Son of the Sun" and "Yellow Bamboo" are typical of the Kraan formula. Melodic and subtly flavored by world-ethnic elements, Kraan never descended into pointless soloing or unnecessary complication or arrangements. Their songs evolved around the extremely tight interplay between each other. Both "Andy Nogger" (a mildly disturbing tale of a pervert) and "Home" have enough charm and conviction in delivery of their English lyrics to rate them as highly as the other instrumental numbers. But more than anything Kraan was a live band. Their next album was a double album, recorded live in Berlin's Latin Quarter, which unfortunately only saw release in German on the Spieglei label. Both "Nam Nam" and "Holiday am Marterhorn" from Andy Nogger would receive expanded treatment on that album. This album saw release in the US on the Passport label.
