Fuzz Acis & Flowers: One of the best major-label heavy rock albums of the era. Stevens was previously with The Boston Tea Party, and also played on Atlee Yeager's solo albums, as did Don Francisco. Francisco became an L.A. session player and has an extensive recording history into the 1980s. (Clark Faville)

Tapestry Of Delights:
Originally formed in 1965, this underground band were transformed into a pop-orientated outfit by songwriting duo Howard and Blaikley, who had earlier achieved success with The Honeycombs and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich. Although not psychedelic, their music was packaged to fit the flower power era. Their first Fontana single, the catchy I Can Fly, failed to enter the charts, but the sombre orchestrated follow-up, From The Underworld, reached No 6 in 1967, and the excellent Paradise Lost, notable for its 'stripper music' intro and finale, and I Don't Want Our Loving To Die, reached Nos 15 and 5 respectively in 1968. The group's teen appeal was largely attributable to Peter Frampton, voted 'the face of 1968' in the music journals. However, their next single, Sunshine Cottage, failed to chart and when Frampton quit, appalled by some of the trappings of the music business, the band disintegrated. Of course, he later re-emerged to form Humble Pie - an early Supergroup - with Stevie Marriott, and later attained phenomenal success in the USA as a solo artist. Bown and Spinetti later joined Judas Jump and then formed the folk-rock group, Storyteller, although Bown wasn't actually a member. He also made solo albums and was later in Status Quo. This Boy's Always Been True later resurfaced on Sixties Lost And Found 1964-69.

Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Predominantly a hard rock album with some soft passages and psychedelic overtones. It has been reissued and is well worth investigating for its good guitar work and vocals. The band have been variously reported as coming from Indiana and Ohio. The album is sought-after among collectors and even the reissue is now hard to find, although Gear Fab are currently working on a legitimate CD release, so watch this space!

Cosmic Dreams: The single album released by Haze had another of those extraordinary artwork sleeves designed by Walter Seyffer of Nine Days' Wonder fame. It was made to look exactly like a slide picture, complete with frame and a transparent picture of the group Haze. Hazecolor-Dia was a Hauke & Dierks production, recorded during April 1971 at the Clerks Studio. All five tracks were written by Dietmar Low. Slow, cleverly-arranged heavy progressive numbers with a faint blues tinge, featuring humorous lyrics: "A Way To Find Paradise" told about a hippy's struggle to get his hashish to smoke! Scherler really had a strange and wild voice (he usually screamed as loudly as he could), adding much to their gutsy freak rock style. Several tracks also featured flute (the flute player is not identified on the cover). Haze were probably inspired by The Edgar Broughton Band, Arthur Brown and Captain Beefheart. Their album is recommended for all freak rock fans!

Fuzz Acid & Flowers :
Real heavy dudes with some grungey vocals, a mean attitude and some wicked guitar - above-par hard rock. Although outside the musical thrust of this archive, they're worth a mention especially as a couple of tracks on their album were written by Larry West, formerly of the legendary Vagrants and younger brother of guitar colossus, Leslie 'Mountain' West. Their album was produced by Shadow Morton, aka Shadow Mann Mayo and Polott still play together in an outfit called "Blue Lagoon". ~ (Max Waller/Stephane Rebeschini)
