Tapestry Of Delights:
This is supposed to be the 3rd Second Hand album and surely the organ parts sound like it. On the other hand there isn't much coherence between the players, so the music comes forth in uncontrolled spurts, leaving it to coincidence whether it coagulates or not. Too much of the insanity of Second Hand's Death May Be Your Santaclaus and too little of the solidity of Reality makes it hard on the ears. A full-blown drum solo doesn't improve things either. Funny insert, though.

Tapestry of Delights: Chicken Shack formed in April 1965 in Birmingham, but had a long residency at the Star Club in Hamburg in its early days. Their first break came when Mike Vernon signed them to his new Blue Horizon label along with
Fleetwood Mac. Their second break came when
Christine Perfect, who'd previously played for an outfit called Sound Of Blue, joined them in April 1967, for she was considered to be one of Britain's finest female blues singers. Along with
Fleetwood Mac for the next couple of years they were at the forefront of the British blues boom, cutting a couple of good albums in 40 Blue Fingers... and O.K. Ken and enjoying a couple of big hits with their classic cover of Elta James' R&B ace I'd Rather Go Blind and Tears In The Wind. These two singles really represented the more commercial side of their music.
After
Christine Perfect left the band in August 1969 to join her husband John McVie in
Fleetwood Mac they were never the same force. They maintained a good live reputation, though, based around Stan Webb's theatrics. He was really one of the unsung guitar heros of the British blues boom and was their lead vocalist too. Sure he lacked the flair of
Peter Green but their first three albums are essential for blues fans. Indeed, he kept them together through many line-up changes. They developed quite a strong club following in the early seventies but eventually split at the end of 1973 after a German tour which was full of strife and conflict. Webb later reformed them in the late seventies, having been with Broken Glass in the interim.

Crack In The Cosmic Egg:
These were amongst the most dismissible mainstream of "progressive" rock bands from Munich, typical of the mid-1970's I suppose, with a light progressive edge, in the German equivalent of the Audience cum Wishbone Ash type of vein. Andy Marx was previously with the similarly easy listening but more folky styled Tanned Leather.
Their debut OUR SUNRISE is only of marginal interest, having some enjoyable moments. We haven't heard the second! Take note of the interesting cast of guests on both of these.

"The Finnish scene didn't have much to offer back in the early 70s beside Wigwam and Tasavallan presidenti. I thought so for a very long time until this band came along. Charlies a 5 piece unit that made this album somewhere in the first half of the period in a recordingstudio in Lahti. I think this album was originally released on a private label, until Hell records (nice name for a label) re-released it on newpress. Buttocks is a heavy, hypnotic, progressive album with elements of Jethro Tull Aqualang era and great guitarwork. Some odd instrumentation on it like Sandballs(!), Tambourine, flute, Moroccan clay drums and a cowbell. Beside Jethro Tull there is also elements of early Sabbath, Grand Funk, Captain Beyond etc. A highly interesting extremely rare album, check it out.
