    Cosmic Dreams:
An obscure quintet. Fritz Frey was also the engineer on the Chicken Bones album from 1976. Broken Door (1975) contained typical (also lyrical!) mid-seventies "progressivism" with plenty of mellotrons, moogs and heavy guitars - vaguely comparable to a cross between contemporary Zappa, Santana and King Crimson. A very fine album, but unfortunately very hard to find!

Alan Price ~ 1967 ~ A Price on His Head
    genre: pop, blues
    country: uk
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, scans, size: 430 mb), mp3 (320k, covers, 170 mb)
    time: 1:11'39"

Alan Price's second album consolidated the change of direction he'd started in early 1967, when his cover of Randy Newman's "Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear" became a big British hit. Moving away from the jazzy Animals-styled R&B-rock that he'd presented on his first album and singles, Price moved into a more original, if less powerful, brand of Newman-influenced vaudevillian pop. The Randy Newman influence isn't a matter of conjecture; about half of the songs were covers of songs by Newman (who had yet to release his first album at the time A Price on His Head was issued), often of tunes that remain obscure even to serious Newman fans. The effect is something like hearing an even jauntier, more lighthearted Georgie Fame, as even Price's own compositions bore a strong Newman influence in their emphasis on poppy craft and wit. Breaking up the Newman and Price songs were covers of Bob Dylan's "To Ramona" and the little-known Gerry Goffin-Carole King number "On This Side of Goodbye." For a long time the material on this album was difficult to find, particularly in the United States, where Price's early work was virtually unknown. ~ Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

    Scented Gardens Of The Mind:
The group came from Belfort in the East of France. Ruez and Roy had previously played together in The Wolfs (along with Claude Demet) and Octopus (along with Alain Chagnot, an early Ange member). Menetrier had played in Les Incredules with Daniel Haas. Only months after Pentacle's formation, in July 1974, they secured a contract with Arcane. La Clef Des Songes (1975) was produced by Ange leader Christian Decamps. Although Ange was undoubtedly a strong influence, the music of Pentacle was less theatrical and more poetic. The keyboards are dominant with particularly good use being made of the Moog synthesizer. None of the six tracks were outstanding but all are certainly worth a spin. Disillusioned by the music business, Pentacle broke up in 1976.
