the Outlaw Blues Band ~ 1968 ~ The Outlaw Blues Bandgenre: r'n'blues
    state: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers, 207 mb)
    time: 36'49"

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
As their name suggests, this was a blues-rock outfit but they were a pretty good one at that. From California, they were one of the several new acts signed by Bob Thiele, the producer of several interesting jazz artists (Coltrane, Gabor Szabo) and rock groups (Eden's Children, Free Spirits etc).
Their first album features lots of fluid guitar and you should enjoy this if blues-rock is your thing. Even if it isn't you might still like it. Certainly I've Got To Have Peace On My Mind is very imaginative with interesting sound effects and it extends far beyond the usual blues-rock format. The band also have strong jazz influences, particularly in the drumming and the sax (or flute) interludes. Other highlights include an interesting reinterpretation of John D. Loudermilk's Tobacco Road, the instrumental Death Dog Of Doom, Tried To Be A Good Boy (But I'm Worse Than A Nazi), Two 'Tranes Running (not a mispelling but an an homage to Coltrane!) and the catchy Lost In The Blues.
After Gonzales, their bass player, was replaced by Dickens (who would later play with Willie Hutch, a soul/funk singer), they recorded a second album in the same style, still mixing blues covers (Stormy Monday Blues) with original material (Mano Pano Shhhh, Plastic Man, Day Said...).
They can easily be compared to the best moments of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band or The Blues Project, although their albums are only very minor collectables at present.
Leon Rubenhold had previously played in Rosie And The Originals, in the early sixties and later did a lot of uncredited session work in the Hollywood studios. Equally at ease with guitar and harmonica, he reappeared in 1980 with Rainbow Red Oxidiser, a short-lived L.A. group formed by Michael Neal (a friend of Sky Saxon) with Mars Bonfire, Ed Cassidy (Spirit) and Gary Marker (Rising Sons, Fusion). He has recently released a new CD.
Bass player, Joe Francis Gonzales died recently of liver cancer. ~ (Stephane Rebeschini/Vernon Joynson)

Osiris ~ 1984 ~ Myths And Legendsgenre: neo prog
    state: bahrain
quality: lossless (ape, cue, log, covers, 295 mb)
    time: 44'50"

    progarchives:
Who would had believed back in the early 70's when Prog was young and almost an exclusively UK and Europe phenomenon, that some day I would be writing a bio for a band from the Middle East?
Well the time has come for OSIRIS from Bahrain, a Symphonic/Neo Prog group formed back in 1979. the original lineup information is very limited, so we will have to base our bio in the first 1981 official lineup formed by Mohamed Al-Sadeqi (guitar, vocals), Mohamed Abdul Razak-Aryan (keyboards, vocals), Nabil Alsadeqi (drums), Sabah Alsadeqi (lead vocals) Abdul Razzak Arian (organ and other keyboards), Nader Sharif (piano and other keyboards) and Ali Knonji in the bass
The fact is that this band with strong CAMEL and GENESIS ties has been considered Neo Prog due to the fact that their approach is a bit simpler than the influential bands, but due to the fact OSIRIS was founded in 1979 when Neo wasn't yet born but at the same time despite the abundance of keyboardists, usually Mohamed Al Sadeqi takes the lead with the guitar, so to be honest I couldn't swear to what genre they really belong, but this doesn't matter too much because they are a very solid band.
During their first era the band released three albums, "Osiris", 1982 , "Myth & Legend" in 1986 and "Reflections" in 1989.
In 1991 OSIRIS releases their first and only live album "Beyond Control Live" and surprisingly in 2007 they release a conceptual album called "Visions from the Past" which is more oriented towards a blend of Bahraini music and Rock. ~ Iván Melgar Morey

Nazz ~ 1971 ~ Nazz IIIgenre: heavy psych
    state: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, cover, 269 mb)
    time: 42'20"

    wikipedia:
Nazz III is the third album by American rock band Nazz, released in 1971, one year after the group disbanded.
The songs on the album consisted of tracks recorded in late 1968 and early 1969 for an intended double album, to be titled Fungo Bat. When a single album (Nazz Nazz) was released instead, an album's worth of tracks remained unreleased. Drummer Thom Mooney, who retained possession of the master tapes, was contacted by SGC Records in 1970 and was coerced into allowing the label to listen to the material. Mooney was unaware that the label's intention was to use the recordings for a possible third album in order to capitalize on former Nazz member Todd Rundgren's burgeoning solo career. The label released Nazz III following the release of Rundgren's second solo album, Runt. The Ballad of Todd Rundgren.
At some point during the production process for Nazz III, original vocalist Robert "Stewkey" Antoni overdubbed his vocals on songs which originally featured Rundgren singing.

    the Kingsmen ~ 1965a ~ Volume 3genre: garage
    state: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, cover, 201 mb)
    time: 36'48"

    wikipedia:
The Kingsmen's third album featured "The Jolly Green Giant", a novelty number which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart and #25 on the Billboard R&B chart, along with several other R&B classics and a couple of Wailers covers. As with previous albums, crowd noise overdubs were added on some tracks to simulate a live performance. The album sold well due to the success of "The Jolly Green Giant", the group's frenetic touring schedule, and the ongoing controversy over the lyrics of "Louie Louie". It entered the Billboard Top LPs chart on February 20, 1965, and remained for 18 weeks, peaking at No. 22.

Simon Finn ~ 1970 ~ Pass The Distancegenre: psych folk
    state: uk
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, cover, 316 mb)
    time: 54'37"

    Tapesry of Delights:
This is pretty strange fare indeed, to put it mildly. Sounding very much like Tom Rapp on a horror trip, Finn sets out on a journey of nightmare folk, which knows no appeasement. The mania shining through is greatly enhanced by the uncanny ability of multi-instrumentalist Toop to play several different songs simultaneously, seemingly often not related to the song the other two are playing. Guitars appear in the wrong key, song structures are blissfully ignored. This bordering on the edge of chaos, makes for some fascinating listening when it gels, but at times can get on your nerves. Unexpected dissonances occur constantly, while the lyrics are very serious without being patronising and, of course, very down too. The cover (also by Toop) has its own share of subtle fright and is an excellent visual accompaniment to this soundtrack of assorted willies. ~ (Marcel Koopman)
