    Sameti ~ 1972 ~ Sametigenre: kraut

    Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
A collection of Munich musicians fronted by Christian "Shrat" Thiele (born 29/3/1946, in Unterpolling) the former Amon Düül II vocalist/percussionist. The band was originally known as Konsameti, and existed over a year before the debut LP, with a constantly changing line-up. In fact, with the two albums billed as Sameti, only Shrat was in common, and as such they amounted to two very different bands...
The original band produced a music with trippy Amon Düül II and bluesy Hawkwind stylings, and in fact the whole album sounds as though it was made in an acid haze. It is especially notable for the stunning tripped-out improvised LP side-long work "Anotherwaytoseeimprovisation". Shrat's vocals, only heard rarely in Amon Düül II, come across as most strange, adding a unique touch to a highly derivative, but most enjoyable, blend of Krautrock styles.
The later incarnation of the band saw an all-change in the ranks, and were more of a supergroup, with other Amon Düül II people and former Gila drummer, but apart from the promising "Intro" musically they offered a rather bland Anglo-American type mainstream rock and pop. Their album is of historical interest only.

Salamander ~ 1970 ~ the Ten Commandmentsgenre: proto sympho prog

    time: 35'24"

    Tapestry of Delights:
This is a different band whose concept album is based on the Ten Commandments. Each track deals with a different commandment. The album, which was produced by Miki Dallon, was dominated by Bob Leaper's orchestral arrangement, but there are also some good melodies, strong vocals and organ work and powerful drumming. The best tracks are those where the orchestral arrangements are more discreet:- He Is My God, on which the melody sounds like King Crimson in places; Images, which featured strong vocals, good drumming and organ work; the mellow and melodic People and False Witness, a good progressive piece with some fine guitar leads and powerful organ. ~ (Costas Arvanitis)

Saint Steven ~ 1969 ~ Saint Stevengenre: psych
    state: us
quality: lossless (flac, cue, log, covers, 239 mb)
    time: 36'21"

    Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
These recordings are the work of a Steve Cataldo (ex-Front Page Review) and the album certainly is rather interesting and highly-rated by many. The band seem to have been based in the New York/Massachusetts area.
The two sides of the album are titled "The Bastich" and "Over The Hills", which is why the latter is often referred to as the title in dealers' lists. The bonus cuts erroneously added to the reissue of the One St. Stephen album are actually by Steve Cataldo's previous outfit Front Page Review.
The U.K. See For Miles reissue label tried to buy the rights to this album but MCA deny all knowledge of the tapes!
Oddly, Whalefeather cover The Bastich on their second album! ~ (Vernon Joynson / Clark Faville / Max Waller)
