    Dreams Fantasies & Nightmares:

The roots of this Argentine band lay in a bluesy trio called Ricota, consisting of Gabis, Martinez and Medina, who were modelled on U.K. blues-rock trio Cream. After the name change to Manal they signed to the Mandioca label and their now very rare debut single was one of that label's first three releases and came in a deluxe fold-out picture sleeve.

In mid-1969, their second single was released and early in 1970 came their first album. Original copies of what was one of the most important Argentine albums are now very hard to come by. It contained their most popular song Jugo De Tomate and Avenida Rivadavia (about Buenos Aires' longest avenue) (both of these tracks were issued on a third single). Other highlights included Avellaneda Blues (a tango blues about the suburbs _ in fact there were lots of urban references in the lyrics) and Informe De Un Diá. The same year the bluesy Elena by the band figured on the compilation. Pidamos Pera a Mandioca (Mandioca MLP 335) 1970. It was re-recorded for their second more rockier album El Léon and also figured on the flip side of their final single Dona Laura. Its highlights included Paula, Si No Hablo De Mi and Blues De La Amenaza Nocturna. However, it was not of the standard of its predecessor and the band split soon after its release. Both albums are only recommended for rock-blues fans.

Medina and Gabis were both later in La Pesada and also had solo albums. Martinez went abroad but returned in 1981 when the band had a reunion and recorded two new but undistinguished albums Reunion and En Obras. Not to be put off, they reunited fourteen years later in 1995 for another live tour and live album.
