The ninth studio album. It was released in November 1969 by Parlophone, their second album that year coming 6 months after an entire album of Bob Dylan covers. It was their first album of original compositions since the departure of Graham Nash and the second album by The Hollies to feature Terry Sylvester, on rhythm guitar and first to feature Terry Sylvester compositions as well as an instrumental composition by bassist Bernie Calvert. The U.S. version, titled "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", included the hit single by the same name, while omitting the tracks "Soldier's Dilemma" and "Marigold: Gloria Swansong". The UK album did not chart, but its U.S. version peaked at #32.

In the early sixties, Hine formed half of the folk duo Rupert & David. The duo performed in pubs and clubs and occasionally shared the stage with a then-unknown Paul Simon. The duo's one released single (on the Decca label in 1965) was a cover of Simon's "The Sounds of Silence". The single was not a success, but was notable for featuring a young Jimmy Page on guitar and Herbie Flowers on bass.
Hine released two albums under his own name in the early 70s: Pick Up a Bone (1971) and Unfinished Picture (1973).
In 1973, Hine, along with guitarist Mark Warner, bassist John G. Perry (then of Caravan) and drummer Trevor Morais (formerly of The Peddlers) formed the band Quantum Jump, releasing two albums, Quantum Jump (1976) and Barracuda (1977). After a re-release of the track "Lone Ranger" (from Quantum Jump) became an unexpected UK Top Ten hit in 1979, a third album – Mixing, a reworking of tracks selected from the first two Quantum Jump albums – was released.
After Quantum Jump disbanded, Hine released a trilogy of albums under his own name, including Immunity (1981); Waving Not Drowning (1982); and The Wildest Wish to Fly (1983). The American release of Wildest Wish dropped two tracks, radically reworked two others and incorporated two tracks from 1981's Immunity – including "Misplaced Love", which featured a guest vocal by Marianne Faithfull and had been a minor hit in Australia, reaching number 14 on the charts. In 1985, Hine wrote and produced much of the soundtrack for the black comedy film Better Off Dead.

These were solo ventures by the former V.I.P.s and Spooky Tooth member. Harrison helped reform Spooky Tooth in 1973 when his solo career failed to take off, although when the group disbanded again during 1974 he had another equally low key shot as a solo artist.
First solo album by Spooky Tooth principal lead singer Mike Harrison, released on Island Records in 1971. It was recorded and released after Spooky Tooth had broken up for the first time, following the release of their album The Last Puff (1970). Harrison's backing band on the album was the Carlisle band Junkyard Angel.

British composer, pianist and founder member of The Enid.
Born on the Leeds Castle estate in Kent, England, Godfrey was educated at Finchden Manor in Tenterden, which was described by its founder George Lyward as a "therapeutic community for adolescents", other alumni of which included Alexis Korner and Tom Robinson. Although he didn't start to play the piano until the age of twelve, Godfrey's talent was prodigious enough to gain him admission to both the Royal College of Music, then the Royal Academy of Music. He studied under concert pianist Malcolm Binns, and those around him included Sir Michael Tippett, Benjamin Britten and Hans Werner Henze.
From 1968 to 1971 Godfrey became resident musical director with Barclay James Harvest, making musical contributions to early recordings which established their full, orchestral style of rock music. The relationship fell apart and accounts differ as to why. For a short time after this, Godfrey played in the band Siddartha. In 1974 the Charisma Records label released his first solo work, Fall of Hyperion. Although not a commercial success at the time, this work has since become collectable.
He then went on to form The Enid, a band that is still performing and recording today.
Recently, he has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. As a consequence of this, he has revealed that he intends to retire from The Enid and allow the band to continue to perform without him.

This organ-driven blues and jazz influenced outfit was fronted by Weaver who'd previously been in The Fairies. Their albums include several cover versions. For example, Out Of The Frying Pan is an instrumental album and among others includes cover versions of Jumping Jack Flash (Rolling Stones), Baby I Love You (R. Shannon), Willie And The Hand Jive (Johnny Otis), Alexander's Ragtime Band (I. Berlin), Tequila (C.Rio), The House That Jack Built (Alan Price) and Hi Heel Sneakers (R. Higginbottom). Mick Weaver only wrote two tracks, Gasoline Alley and Harpsichord Shuffle, which is the best thing on the album. Very few British bands had such a strong Hammond organ sound, which is now big in the clubs. Their 45s included covers of Bobby Bland's Turn On Your Lovelight, Donovan's Sunshine Superman and The Spencer Davis Group's I Am A Man.
Upon their demise Weaver spent the first three months of 1969 in Mason-Capaldi-Wood-Frog (aka Wooden Frog), before becoming a session man. Hubbard, Spenner and Rowland all returned to The Greaseband from whence they'd come.

Debut solo album by The Who's lead singer, Roger Daltrey which is the third member to make a solo album. It was first released in 1973. The album took six weeks to record during January and February 1973. Sessions took place at Daltrey's Barn Studio, Burwash, East Sussex, where the backing tracks were laid down; vocals, overdubs, and mixing were completed at The Beatles' Apple Studios at 3 Savile Row (the vocals for "One Man Band (reprise)" were recorded on the Apple rooftop, where The Beatles had performed their famous final concert in January 1969), and at Nova Sound Studios.
The album was recorded during a hiatus time in The Who's touring schedule. The top single off the album, "Giving it All Away", reached number five in the UK and the album made the Top 50 in the United States. He also released a single in 1973, "Thinking" with B-side "There is Love" which features Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin on guitar. Bizarrely, the British release, with considerable airplay of "Giving it All Away" (first lines "I paid all my dues so I picked up my shoes, I got up and walked away") coincided with news reports of The Who being sued for unpaid damage to their hotel on a recent tour, including a TV set being thrown out of the window.
