    the Battered Ornaments ~ 1969 ~ Mantle-Piece

    Tapestry Of Delights:
When Pete Brown was kicked out of the band, Chris Spedding took over the vocal role for this now very rare album. Twisted Track is a standout cut, which also got an airing on Harvest's Picnic sampler. Other highlights include Turned On To The Earls Court Scene and there's also some good interplay between the band, particularly Spedding and Khan, throughout.
After this album, Spedding concentrated on session work and also pursued a solo career. The remaining members formed The People Band, cutting one album on Transatlantic.

Ashkan ~ 1969 ~ In from the Cold
    genre: heavy
    country: uk
quality: lossless (ape, cue, log, scans)
    time: 51'55"  size: 291 mb

    Tapestry Of Delights:
This was the first album released on Decca's progressive Nova label. Ashkan are not able to create a sound of their own. The menu mainly offers ill-digested blues and on one track a shameless Traffic rip-off (Slightly Country). The sound is heavy and unpolished, but without conveying any inner need or aim. For completists only.
    (Marcel Koopman).

    Cosmic Dreams:
Why didn't this group record more than just one album? Their self-titled album is a heavy progressive masterpiece with excellent, Hendrix-influenced guitar work and vocals by Frank Diez. Armageddon was the start of his long and impressive career. Their album had six tracks, and two of them were cover versions. Most impressive was the 10 minute version of Jeff Beck Group's "Rice Pudding". This track had some of the greatest heavy guitar riffing to appear on a German record. Their version of Spooky Tooth's "Better By You, Better Than Me" was also competent enough. In addition, both Frank Diez and Manfred Galatik wrote great songs, as typified by the tracks "People Talking" and "Open". Michael Nurnberg and Jurgen Lorenzen provided a strong backing. Armageddon's album has rocketed in price during recent years, due to the ever increasing interest. However, demand for the group was poor way back in 1970, and Armaggedon soon broke up. Diez never played material with a similar energy again, his next step was to join the 'slightly-above-average' jazz-rockers Emergency. Luckily the Armaggedon album was released on CD in 1991 with a sharp and clean digitally remastered sound (in a limited edition of 1,000 numbered copies)
