    ProgArchives:
CORTE DEI MIRACOLI is another Italian great that falls into the realm of traditional, keyboard-based symphonic. The band creates a sound fairly similar to BANCO, sometimes heavy, sometimes lighter, usually lyrical, always in the symphonic vein. The music is moderately complex and all members are good on their instruments.
The first incredible recordings from this famous band elaborated tracks with symphonic keyboards and great mixture of progressive elements that combines certain aspects of GENESIS, VDGG and PFM. Corte dei Miracoli's self-titled album has a distinct symphonic prog sound being very melodic and contrasting in writing style with fellow Italians BALLETTO DI BRONZO, BIGLIETTO PER L'INFERNO or CAMPO DI MARTE. This is purely Italian progressive rock at its best. Pleasant albums after all!!!

    Tapestry of Delights:

A talented and rather underrated progressive rock band Curved Air formed in March 1970. Sonja Kristina, their lead vocalist and sex symbol, had previously made a handful of TV appearances as a teenager in the 'Song and Story' series. She then worked her way on to the folk circuit and later appeared in 'Hair' providing the lead vocals on Frank Mills, which not only appeared on the Soundtrack album, but was also released as a 45. Darryl Way had met Francis Monkman by chance in a music shop, whilst Way was studying at the Royal College of Music. Monkman was currently playing with an outfit called Sisyphus. He also chose the band's name because he was captivated by Terry Riley's Rainbow In Curved Air album at the time.

Their debut album was released to enormous hype and a large promotional budget. Aside from the ordinary release, a substantial number were issued as picture discs - indeed it was one of the first and has inevitably become a minor collector's item. They were carefully packaged to appeal to the prevailing progressive rock genre - using the in vogue violin and synthesizer with quasi-classical material and a sexy female vocalist to provide an additional ingredient. The album's finest moment was Vivaldi, a 7½ minute reinterpretation of The Four Seasons by Darryl Way, which includes some superb violin playing, but other highs on what was an imaginative debut include the uptempo Propositions and the rather mournful, offbeat Screw. One of the less strong cuts, It Happened Today, was released as a 45 and the 'B' side included What Happens When You Blow Yourself Up?, which did appear on their album.

    ProgressiveRock :
Pink Floyd's fifth album appeared a full year after the poor studio half of Ummagumma. The most "progressive" the band would attempt, the subdued album offered its title track over the first side. Originally titled "The Amazing Pudding", it was originally an amalgam of work the Floyd had kicking around at the time. Of course, 1970 turned out to be the year for adding orchestras to rock music, something even the Floyd would succumb to. Composer Ron Geesin and Waters had first collaborated for the soundtrack The Body almost two years prior (though the album would see release in November). Evidently, Geesin was called in to orchestrate the already recorded piece. For the most part, however, the effort fails, the concept perhaps more interesting than the reality. Geesin’s orchestration was integrated, but what that chorus was doing is anyone’s guess. The track finally broke down into a rather uninspired blues jam, ending in a symphonic crescendo that reprises the major theme. A variety of songs from the band members covered the second side. "If" proved to be a Waters archetype, while Wright’s "Summer ‘68" would remain one of his finest compositions. The group composition "Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast" though, was genuine languor; it barely managed to raise its head for the closing section, "Morning Glory". The cover offered no name or title; only the picture of the magnificent Lullubelle III. Despite the lack of critical zeal to the record, it turned out to Pink Floyd's first No. 1 in the UK. Although EMI would release an essential compilation of singles, Relics, little would be heard from the Floyd over the next year.

    from Gibraltar :
Essential band! They where a trio, Georg Wadenius on guitar and vocals , Bo Haeggstroem on bass and Tommy Borgudd on drums. On their first 4 LPs they made really great Jazzrock, with strong bass and vocals. Their fourth Mad River (it was also published under the name Made in England) is a real masterpiece of Scandinavian prog. I could only think of the best recordings of Burnin Red Ivanhoe or Wigwam when listening to this one. Its amazing what unusual sounds and feels that group can get into, and how full a sound they are able to get from what is basically a trio. Definitely a must, quite unique, i don't know something to compare it with!! The last one was some kind of a second start (from the original lineup there is only Wadenius here) and Pekka Pohjola of Wigwam joined in. Here you find fusion ala Brand X, but not that impressive. Recommended are the first three, highly recomed is Mad River! — Achim Breiling
The music isn't to be compared to their other releases but still, I wish that kind of music had been on the TV I watched as a kid! For anyone that really likes Made in Sweden's records it is a must have! — Micke R.

    Dreams Fantasies & Nightmares (Borderline):
The Ptarmigan album is an acoustic mellow laid back early seventies hippie folk offering. There are plenty of recorder passages and strummed guitars and the album has a light pastoral feel overall. It includes both of the 45 cuts, which are certainly the most accessible songs on the album. Side two is dominated by two long and largely instrumental tracks, Night Of The Gulls and Coquihalla.

    ProgArchives:
Gorgeous German acid rock project. The obscure and underrated "Dawn Defender" is constantly mysterious, abstract and experimental, delivering interlocking electronic soundscapes punctuated by electric guitar manipulations and echoing effects. The album was originally released Tony Robinson for Pyramid label. A serious "kosmische" krautrock manifestation, a perfect & strange dreamy-like musical journey throw ultra psych textures. Pretty closed to the Cosmic Jokers (first) and A.R & the Machines.
