    Cosmic Dreams:

A jazz-rock quintet. On the amazingly titled Vampire State Building they presented a pleasant and mainly instrumental progressive jazz-rock sound, with instant recognisable elements from Miles Davis' In A Silent Way and early King Crimson albums. Most successful was the 12 minute track "Simple Headphone Mind". The 13 minute title track was a long improvisation. In addition the album had three shorter tracks, of which "Your Chance Of A Lifetime" (with vocals) was the best. The album was recorded in Tonstudio Wumme, where Faust and Slapp Happy also recorded albums, all engineered by Kurt Graupner.

Beware of the group Alkatraz that released Doing A Moonlight for United Artists (UAS 30001) in 1976. They were British and had nothing to do with the German Alcatraz.

    ItalianProg:

One of the few professional bands from the Marche, on the Adriatic side of central Italy, Agorà were formed in 1974 near Ancona, and played a jazz-rock very influenced by the likes of Weather Report or the italian group Perigeo, with a very limited use of progressive sounds. Some of the band members had previously been in a rock band called Oz Master Magnus Ltd.

Despite not being so popular they were contacted to play the famous Montreux international jazz festival in Switzerland that gave them a deal with Atlantic.
Their first LP was a live album, recorded during that festival. Mostly instrumental and just 30 minutes long, the LP has its moments, with just four long cuts (one of which is curiously split between the two sides of the LP), that often resemble some english jazzy-prog bands of the early 70's.

The second album, in 1976, is much more jazz-rock oriented than the first.
The band also played in the 1976 Parco Lambro festival and is featured on the live album released at the time with Cavalcata solare, from their second album and also released on single.

    from Tapestry of Delights:
This is an obscure progressive concept album which now interests some collectors. It is similar at times to The Moody Blues, and the project featured comment on the life of one man from the turn of the century until the time of his death.. The 45 Prayer For Her was a track from the album.

    Gepr:
Italian Progressive Rock. They have a lot of that "Italian Prog" sound like Le Orme or PFM, but lean more heavily on Metal-style electric guitar than most. You could call them "Progressive Metal", but with emphasis on "Progressive". This is NOT just another Metal band who calls themselves Prog, these guys are very Prog. The music has lots of complex rhythms and fast flurries of notes, sometimes doubled on Guitar and Organ. Not that Keith Emerson distorted Hammond organ sound, but the mellower organ sounds used by a lot of Italian bands. The vocals are in Italian, which I've always liked. The singers become just another instrument, and I don't need to strain to understand the lyrics. -- Fred Trafton

    the Tapestry of Delights:

This Midland band evolved from The Doc Thomas Group, a Hereford-based pub rock/covers band which included Peter 'Overend' Watts, Dale 'Buffin' Griffin, Michael Ralphs and Terence Verden Allen, who played with very little acclaim around the Welsh borders circa 1966/67. They also spent some time in Milan, Italy, with vocalist Stan Tippins now added to their line-up, where they got to record an album and upon returning to Britain moved from Hereford down to London changing name to The Silence (which Watts and Griffin had used for an earlier combo after leaving school). They soon came to the attention of Guy Stevens who became their manager and producer. Tippins, who yearned for the warmer climate of Italy soon left and Stevens renamed the remaining members Mott The Hoople after a 1967 novel by Willard Manus. He also placed an advert in 'Melody Maker' for a new vocalist. It read, "Singer wanted, must be image-minded and hungry". He recruited Shrewsbury-born Ian Hunter whose real name was Ian Patterson. Hunter had previously been in At Last The 1958 Rock 'n' Roll Show.

    Tapestry of Delights:
This band was originally from Dunfermline in Scotland and known as The Shadettes. Manny Charlton hadn't been with them nearly as long as the other three, having previously been guitarist for other local groups The Mark Five and Red Hawkes. The name change came shortly after Charlton joined in 1969. They took the name Nazareth from a line in The Weight by The Band. For the first couple of years they worked on a semi-professional basis establishing a reputation in Scotland as a no nonsense hard rock band. After their first album Nazareth, they went full-time. Both this and the follow-up, Exercises, which also contained some acoustic tracks were recorded down in London, where they decided to move to. Their second 45, Morning Dew, covered a Tim Rose song.
