Tapestry Of Delights: After leaving
The Incredible String Band because they probably were too far-out for him, Clive Palmer moved to Penzance and cut two records with his "own band", which are now very sought-after. Even though Palmer is essentially a very limited vocalist and writer, and despite the extremely sparse and austere arrangements of his "folk" songs, both above albums manage to convey a surprisingly gripping atmosphere of sadness and resignation. His vocals waver, his compositions tend to be repetitive, still the result is nothing less than perplexing. Some of the tracks transmit a religious feeling, not in the usual sense of the word, but on a purely emotional level. Pretty convincing and recommended. Palmer then went on to participate in the
Temple Creatures and
Famous Jug Band. (Marcel Koopman).
