Tapestry of Delights:
Harvey and Gulland (who formed the band) were both former students of the Royal College of Music. Indeed, Harvey was a first-class recorder virtuoso. Their musical roots were very much in medieval folk but after their first album, which achieved some minor Chart success, they experimented more with long instrumentals. Side two of Midnight Mushrooms consisted of one track commissioned by Peter Hall for a National Theatre production of 'The Tempest'. They went on to play film Soundtracks for 'Pope Joan' and 'Brother Sun, Sister Moon' and arranged the title theme for 'Glastonbury Fayre'. In 1975, Harvey recorded a solo album of recorder music,Divisions On A Ground (Transatlantic TRA 292). In 1975, when Graeme Taylor left, the group expanded from a quartet to a sextet. Baird had previously played with Contraband. If mid-seventies progressive/techno-rock is your scene the group may be for you
