Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
This is another fine album by an entirely different band, from North Carolina. Only 100 copies were pressed originally making it an ultra rarity, although the recent reissues on Rockadelic/Atlas will bring it to the attention of a wider audience. There's lots of good guitar work on this album, from the fuzz psych of Holiday (with its effective drumming) and Modern Day Oracle to the bluesy guitar on Day Of Sunshine and the title cut and the more melodic and mellow mood of The Great Clock and Fugue. Recommended. ~ (Vernon Joynson / Max Waller)

Tapestry of Delights:
A pop group best remembered for their No 1 hit Yellow River, a song originally written for The Tremeloes (who featured Mike Blakely's brother Alan). When The Tremeloes procrastinated Jeff Christie, who'd written the song, decided to record it himself and the rest is history. Christie had evolved out of The Epics and Jeff Christie himself had earlier been in several bands including The Outer Limits. Mike Blakely had been in The Blossoms. San Bernadino, another highly commercial song, gave them another Top Ten hit, but after one further minor hit Iron Horse, they faded from from the spotlight.
Their 45s Man Of Many Faces, Magic Highway and Peace Lovin' Man were all taken from their second album, For All Mankind. Aside from the title track, which has been described as outstanding, other strong tracks are Picture Painter and Martian King.
By the time of the Iron Horse 45 was released, Christie had expanded to a foursome with Len Lumin as the new member. After they disbanded, Jeff Christie released two solo 45s: Both Ends Of The Rainbow and Tightrope. ~ (Vernon Joynson / Ray Chan)

the Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
These were an obscure heavy progressive, who almost certainly had their roots in the late-1960's, and were definitely inspired by Jimi Hendrix and early British bands, like Back Sabbath, Tractor, et al., but were notably much more free and improvised. Despite the title of their album, Chicken Bones were not at all mundane hard rock, but were highly creative and often moved very close to May Blitz, early UFO or Cargo, but with lots of nice moves and flowery guitar work-outs. Basic, and gutsy admittedly, Chicken Bones were a lot better than the reputation that preceded them, and their album became quite a sought after obscurity.
Chicken Bones existed in various forms for around a decade, afterwards ending up as the vastly inferior more metal oriented Revanche, then eventually disbanding in the 1980's.

Dreams Fantasies & Nightmares:
A Montreal, Quebec-based hard rock band. They included Walter Rossi, who was previously with Influence and who later released several other solo albums after 1976 and played on Wilson Pickett's I Want You album in 1979. He is also rumoured to have played on Thee Muffins obscure garage album Pop Up!.
Their album, which got a U.S. release on Mind Dust four years after its initial Canadian exposure, is full of good pulsating hard rock numbers featuring lots of superb guitar work from the hands of Walter Rossi. The instrumental opening cut, Wizard, sets the tone and driving hard rockers like Lord Knows I've Won, the imaginativeJust You And Me and Wheel Of Fortune. Let's Keep Silent is notable for lots of fuzz guitar work and A Way To Die is a slower song featuring lots of Rossi's fine guitar work. All bar one cut were penned by Rossi (four were co-written with Danny Ippersiel). An album well worth checking out.
Rossi was later in Moonquake.

A Quebec band. Their album opens with Dynamite, a good guitar driven instrumental. The stand-out track on side one is Le Ghetto Noir, a slow bluesy number with some very pleasant guitar. Réve Futur has some good fuzz guitar work and Le Train some plesant flute passages courtesy of Emilé Naud. Side two is dominated by the haunting eleven and a half minute experimental progressive number, La Château Hante and concluded by two instrumentals, Folies Du Mercrediand Pop-pino.
