Dream Fantasies & Nightmares:
Although this group originally formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in December 1969, they moved to Montreal in Quebec the following April. Their debut album, a pop/rock offering, was produced by Billy Hill as was their first 45, Fast Train, which became a hit. Shortly after the album's release Jimmy Henman left to be replaced by Jimmy Clench.
1972 saw the release of a second album, On The Record, which spawned a No. 1 hit, You Could Have Been A Lady, a guitar-driven hard rocker. The follow-up 45, Bad Side Of The Moon, was penned by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The remainder of the album comprised a very presentable blend of riffy hard rockers, like Work All Day and Drop Your Guns (another hit 45 track) and melodic mainstream rock like Refuge, Flow River Flow and Didn't You. Five were penned by Myles Goodwyn, two by David Henman and one by Jimmy Clench - a promising album overall.

Instrumental band from Japan who plays a very interesting and intricate music, a real salad of styles, navigating over jazz fusion, symphonic prog and Canterbury Sound. This group plays a chamber and fusion Progressive rock in the style of KENSO, HATFIELD AND THE NORTH and CAMEL. Hard to imagine such sound? What are you waiting for... go listen to the band!

the Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
One of many obscure bands from the 1970's not documented at the time. Apparently the album was recorded for Kerston Records in 1972, but was never released. Action hailed from Zweibrücken, and played a heavy prog blend quite obviously influenced by Deep Purple, organ fronted and with Wolfgang Benki notably indebted to Ian Gillan. Over all it sounds more like a demo than a proper album. Side 1's two-part opus feels a bit like early Tomorrow's Gift (hints of Vanilla Fudge and Pink Floyd). Obviously unfinished, the final track is a live recording of rather mediocre quality.

Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Bands of this ilk are often touted as 'psychedelic' by dealers presumably to boost collectors' interest and asking prices. Pleasant flowery folk-rock-pop with occasional sound effects it may be, mind-expanding it ain't. Just a slightly hipper version of the Fifth Dimension in many cases and include the likes of Forum, Split Level and Yankee Dollar here too. If you like trendy but slightly fabricated MOR sixties pop, then great. Enjoy it - I ain't knockin' it, just the dealers who hype it as something it isn't.
From New York, they included Elliot Randall, who went on to be a highly rated session man. ~ (Max Waller)
