Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Formed in Virgina in 1969, this power-trio shared the same stomping grounds as Short Cross in the Richmond-Norfolk-Virginia Beach area. This heavy rock album has now become a minor collectable. With strong vocals and lots of excellent instrumentation it's easy to see why. One track, Golden Sails, sounds uncannily like Jethro Tull, but all eight cuts are originals, six of them Jim Galyon compositions, the other two co-written with Steve Arcese. A must for heavy rock fans but worth a twirl for most collectors. They lasted until the mid-70s and their legacy has been secured with the CD on Gear Fab.
Jim Galyon later released a poor privately pressed solo album in the early seventies. ~ (Vernon Joynson/Max Waller/Roger Maglio)

ItalianProg:
A minor band from Bergamo, founded in 1978 from the ashes of Dalton by drummer Locatelli, that only released an album in 1980.
La scimmia sulla schiena del re is a short eight-track album with the usual classical influences and some Gentle Giant-inspired sounds and rhythm changes. Half of the tracks are instrumental with the opening Preludio in D one of the best cuts.
Unfortunately there was no more interest in progressive music when the album came out and it had a limited distribution causing the band to split soon after.

Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
Message are one of those enigmas of Krautrock, in that their origins are not only from Germany originally, but also from Britain. And, it's a strange and complex story! Scotsman Tommy McGuigan and Allan Murdoch (not a Scots, but from the Isle Of Wight) first got together in 1962 in the Scottish rock 'n' roll band The Waysiders. After they split, in 1965, Allan returned to England playing in many bands, eventually ending up in the band MI5 with Taff Freeman. Due to lack of media interest in England, MI5 moved base to Germany in 1967 and eventually became Nektar. Meanwhile German bassist Horst Stachelhaus had formed Message in September 1968 and the two bands became close friends. Allan Murdoch joined Message and invited his old friend Tommy to join too (who seemingly also brought along Billy Tabbert), and thus Message as a 60%-British 40%-German band was formed.
Akin to Nektar in many ways, but fronted by Tommy's unique singing and fiery saxophone playing, Message combined the best of British heavy and progressive styles with Krautrock innovation. Firmly in the definitive Bacillus Records rock style (with that unique Dieter Dierks sound), their debut showed an innovative progressive band at work, not afraid to take chances. As such, their LP debut THE DAWN ANEW IS COMIN' is excellent, though, it took until the second album for Message to reveal their full potential. Even without a second guitarist and running-in a new drummer, part of the key to FROM BOOKS AND DREAMS success was Dieter Dierks' enthusiasm, phenomenal production and vivid recording. Yes, right through it's an album of astonishing creativity, menacing and intensely powerful, with bizarre surreal dream image lyrics and all sorts of surprising twists in the music.

The LP peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard 200 chart, with the title track peaking at No. 82 in the Hot 100. Although the album received an unfavorable review in Rolling Stone magazine upon its release, it has gone on to be considered an important forerunner to punk rock music, and in 2003 was ranked number 294 on Rolling Stone 's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list.

Issued just one month after the previous album, Live at the Padget Rooms, Penarth, it features a radically different line-up. Martin Ace having left, and Deke Leonard having been fired, Clive John returned, bringing with him Phil Ryan and Will Youatt, with whom Clive had formed Iorwerth Pritchard and the Neutrons when he left Man in 1971. This is the only studio album by this particular line-up, which also recorded the live Christmas at the Patti before Clive John left again.
