... At college in Nashville, Vytas took post-graduate courses in Electronic music with Professor Gilbert Trythall, and graduated with honors in 1972. In 1971 he started a duo named Vitas & Mafe with Venezuelan singer María Fernanda Márquez.
In 1972 Brenner formed his own band, La Ofrenda (The Offering) and recorded 5 very successful LPs until 1979. With Ofrenda he started his pioneer work with compositions for combinations of electric and electronic instruments (synthesizers) with acoustic instruments and piano; and blending Progressive-Symphonic Rock, Latin rhythms, and Venezuelan traditional themes, with astounding results.
Brenner recorded several remarkable LPs, each one a breakthrough, as he was in fact developing a new genre in giant leaps. En 1982 a somewhat reunited Ofrenda performed at the "Teatro de Bellas Artes de Maracaibo", but was coldly received by the public, followed by strong press criticism. In 1989 the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra performed his work "Oro Negro" ("Black Gold") at the Caracas' famed Teatro Teresa Carreño. In 1989 he released the CD album entitled "Amazonia". He was commissioned to compose works for "Viajando con Polar", a series of short documentaries about Venezuela's regions, depicting their beautiful landscapes and rich folklore. He created music for various films, such as "Adiós Alicia", "Se llamaba SN", and playwright Román Chalbaud's "Carmen la que contaba 16 años". All the while, Brenner was a very successful studio musician, composing and performing in countless radio jingles, TV commercials and presidential campaigns. At the international level, his old and rare vinyl records sell for between US$70 to US$220.
Brenner died on 18 March 2004 of a heart attack in Salzburg, Austria at the age of 57.

Blunstone's plaintive, wistful voice was one of the factors making The Zombies' single, "She's Not There" (written by fellow band member Rod Argent), a big hit worldwide. After the amicable split of the band, shortly after completing the baroque pop classic LP, Odessey and Oracle, Blunstone briefly worked in the insurance business before resuming his musical career. In 1969, he signed with Deram Records and cut three singles under the pseudonym of Neil MacArthur, including a re-make of The Zombies' hit, "She's Not There" which charted in the UK.
He had some success as a solo artist, notably in 1972 with "Say You Don't Mind" (peaked at number 15 in the UK chart and written by future Wings member Denny Laine) and "I Don't Believe in Miracles" (peaked at number 31 in the UK chart and written by Argent member Russ Ballard), both with string arrangements by Christopher Gunning. Additional minor hits followed with "How Could We Dare To Be Wrong" in early 1973 (peaked at number 45 in the UK chart) and "Tracks of My Tears" in 1982 (peaked at number 60 in the UK chart).
One Year (1971) produced by Chris White) was his first solo album, and included the song "Caroline Goodbye" about Blunstone's break-up with the model and actress Caroline Munro. This was followed by Ennismore and Journey. He then signed with Elton John's record label named The Rocket Record Company and released three albums, Planes (1976), Never Even Thought (1978) and Late Nights in Soho (1979), which was only released in Europe.

Zager and Evans was a Lincoln, Nebraska, rock-pop duo of the late 1960s and early 1970s named after its two members, Denny Zager and Rick Evans. They are best known for their 1969 hit single "In the Year 2525".
Zager and Evans met at Nebraska Wesleyan University, and they were joined by drummer Danny Schindler (later of the Benders) in the seminal Nebraska band the Eccentrics, until Schindler's tour of Vietnam in 1965.
As Zager and Evans, the duo were backed by Mark Dalton, also a Nebraska native, on bass. Their first drummer, Paul Maher, was later replaced by another Nebraskan, Dave Trupp. Trupp and Dalton were also the rhythm section in the popular Liberation Blues Band and backed Evans on some solo demo material prior to Zager and Evans's recording of "In the Year 2525" in 1968.
"In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)" was written exclusively, music & lyrics, by Richard (Rick) S. Evans. It was registered with the performing rights organization Broadcast Music, Inc. The song warned of the dangers of technology, portraying a future in which the human race was destroyed by its own technological and medical innovations. The last stanza of the song suggests mankind undergoes a continuing cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
"In the Year 2525" hit number one on the Hot 100 in 1969. It claimed the #1 spot for six weeks. It also topped the charts in the UK. It was number one on July 20, 1969, in the United States, the date of the first manned moon landing, by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. It continued to top the charts while the Woodstock Music Festival was going on. It was nominated for a special Hugo Award that same year. It sold over four million copies by 1970 and was awarded a gold disc by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in July 1969.
The song was originally written in 1964 and recorded and released in 1968 on the Truth Records label. After radio stations in Lincoln and Omaha turned the record into a regional "break-out" hit record, RCA Records signed the duo and rereleased the song nationwide. They also immediately recorded a follow-up album of the same name, again using Trupp and Dalton as the primary rhythm section. Sales of the original hit recording (including singles sales, album usage and compilation inclusions) now total over 10 million units worldwide. The B-side of the original single was "Little Kids".

Arguably a marginal case for inclusion here since they are really remembered for playing a crowd-pulling brand of rock'n'roll and R&B. They came together in New York in early 1965 when Cavaliere, Brigati and Cornish all left Joey Dee's Starlighters at the same time. They played their first gig at the Choo Choo Club in Garfield, New Jersey. Their music was soul-based, danceable and immediate and after their debut single, I Ain't Gonna Eat My Heart Out Anymore met with some initial success, the follow-up Good Lovin' made No. 1 and set them on the road to further success. They were the first white rock act to be signed by Atlantic and their music had a wide appeal to both black and white audiences. Groovin', their second No. 1 and possibly their magnum opus, marked a definite change of style. Depicting a long, ecstatic afternoon in the sun it superbly captured the vibes of the Summer of 1967 and is of far more relevance to this book than what had gone before. Other notable slices of superb pop-rock were How Can l Be Sure?, A Girl Like You and It's Wonderful, which made use of sound effects. After the last mentioned the 'Young' was omitted from their title and they increasingly veered towards a sort of good vibe jazzy rock. People Got To Be Free gave them their third and final U.S. No. 1 after which they underwent a changed line-up and changed labels to Columbia. Among the newcomers was Buzzy Feiten who'd previously played with Paul Butterfield.
The new line-up cut two albums which aroused some interest but little excitement, and they disbanded in 1972. Felix Cavaliere later went solo recording two critically acclaimed if commercially unsuccessful albums for Bearsville. Sounding similar to The Lovin' Spoonful, The Youngbloods were originally from New York. Indeed Jesse Colin Young (real name Perry Miller) recorded the second of two earlier albums, entitled Youngblood, in a group which actually featured John Sebastian (hrmnca) along with Pete Childs (dobro). It flopped, and he formed a duo with Jerry Corbitt, a folk singer from Georgia who'd got a good reputation on the Boston folk-circuit. Bauer and Levinger were then drafted in for the group's early recordings which their record company, Mercury, subsequently issued as the Two Trips album.
Billed as Jesse Colin Young And The Youngbloods, their first two albums for RCA were made in New York and produced by Felix Pappalardi but failed to establish the group. They headed West for San Francisco, attracted by the lure of its musical explosion. There they issued Elephant Mountain which was a vast improvement on their earlier material and also had a hit with hippie anthem Get Together in the Summer of 1967. However, during the recording of their album, which peaked at No. 118 in the U.S. Album Charts, Jerry Corbitt left the band. This reduced the band to a threesome, although Mike Kane was added in 1972. Elephant Mountain, produced by Charlie Daniels, contained a wealth of diverse material. The opening track Darkness, Darkness has a beautiful string introduction and a ringing guitar solo. There is a jazzy feel to On The Sir Francis Drake and Trillium with Banana's fresh guitar and piano playing well to the fore and a wealth of country-folk material such as Sunshine, Beautiful, Smug and Ride The Wind, as well as the jug band-like Rain Song.
After Corbitt's departure they signed a new contract with Warner Bros. who granted them their own 'Raccoon' label and issued Rock Festival and Ride The Wind - two live recordings, the latter also produced by Charlie Daniels. They made No's 80 and 157 respectively in the U.S. Album Charts. The band now reached their zenith. Ride The Wind gives a good indication of the band at its best. Apart from the title track the album contained gorgeous versions of Sunlight, Get Together and Beautiful. Rock Festival is a much rockier album including more up-tempo efforts like Faster All The Time and Peepin' n Hidin' alongside their more typical laid back efforts like It's A Lovely Day, Josephine and Misty Roses. Fiddler A Dram and Interlude find the group sounding very similar to the Kaleidoscope. The album concludes with Ice Bag - an experimental jam which suited the psychedelic influences of the times.

Yggdrasil were a German folk band who existed briefly in the early 70s, disbanding shortly after recording several tracks not commercially released at the time. The few (10) proofs pressed from the master acetate have never appeared in known collections, but the original five song collection was reissued along with several demos and assorted other songs by Garden of Delights in 2009. ~ Bob Moore

From the Cheshire and Prospect areas of Connecticut, these guys started out playing classic garage fuzz-punk as demonstrated by To Be Or Not To Be . They'd progress to a hard rock style, of which the LP is a good example and worth searching out.
There's also a French EP on Discaz 1101 that features the Parrot 45 tracks plus Love And Things and Dance All Night, so perhaps there's another U.S. 45. ~ (Max Waller)
