    Tapestry of Delights:
A collection of talented and highly professional jazz musicians who created a modern jazz/jazz-rock sound typical of the mid-seventies period and including the likes of National Health, Soft Machine and Mirage. Between albums Gowan toured with Soft Head (Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean, (sax) and Dave Sheen (drms)) and recorded an album, Rogue Element, on Ogun records. After the second Gilgamesh album Gowan, Hopper, Dean and Pip Pyle recorded an album as Soft Heap, a rather inaccessible experimental jazz/rock album. Hugh Hopper, of course, was earlier in Soft Machine and he and Alan Gowan made an album together entitled Two Rainbows Daily in 1980 on Red Records. Gowan had previously played in Assegai and Sunship and later had a spell in National Health playing on their first album and was also involved in writing two tracks on it. Following his death in 1981 the band produced an album solely of tracks written by Gowan in his memory, including tracks from the Gilgamesh albums. Phil Lee and Trevor Tomkins are still playing regularly on the jazz circuit.
Mike Travis had earlier played with Buzz and Atlantic Bridge.
    (Vernon Joynson / Mike Warth).
