    Tapestry of Delights:
    The first solo album by the guitarist of Spirit should interest fans of rock trios a lб Hendrix. Recorded with three different rhythm sections, one including Noel Redding (who was then recording the Road's album in the same studio), it includes two covers of the Beatles (Rain and Day Tripper), one of Paul Simon (Mother And Child Reunion) and three songs written by California, Evil, Downer and Rainbow.
    California (real name: Randy Wolfe) used a lot of pyrotechnic effects on his guitars and the result, quite loud, can be compared to the albums of Velvert Turner or Peter Kaukonen. It is rumoured than a Kaptain Kopter, Volume II album was recorded but then shelved when California reformed Spirit. He would later record several other solo albums, which are rarely as interesting as his first effort.
    Randy California died on 2nd January 1997 after he and his son were hit by a freak wave in Hawaii. Both were sadly drowned. ~ (Stephane Rebeschini)
