the Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
The precursor to Schicke-Führs-Fröhling, Spektakel were but an obscure part of history until recently, as at the time, though they played many concerts and recorded an album, nothing was ever released.
Spektakel's roots come from British rock of the late-1960's/early-1970's, and though they quote Deep Purple as an influence (early concerts would feature Deep Purple covers) the main influences that come through are King Crimson, Genesis and Yes, in complex lengthy tracks, featuring vocals reminiscent of John Wetton. In all, Spektakel had a refined style that drew on a lot of influences in a largely instrumental keyboard dominated music. As a bonus to the studio recordings, the CD also treats us to a live track rooted in the King Crimson LARKS' TONGUES IN ASPIC era improvised style.
