Fuzz Acid & Flowers:
Portage, Indiana was home to this band who formed in 1973 and recorded their raw, wild debut album at a professional studio in Chicago in 1975. While the band obviously had great talent and progressive rock was their medium, the record has a garage quality to it, an infectious energy that is missing from so much music of the genre. The tracks are long with elaborate arrangements, but the virtuosity is implied rather than displayed and the album therefore avoids the usual progressive rock pitfalls. The record has an amazing sleeve and label design as well, and is recommended. A follow-up recording in 1976 (finally issued in 1989) was more refined and much of the excitement of the debut had been lost. The group recorded into the 1980s using the name Crafty Hands. ~ (Clark Faville)
