Dreams Fantasies & Nightmares:
A pop/rock album. The group were earlier known as Mandala. They achieved some commercial success with I Can Hear You Calling in November 1970, but disbanded the following year after one album. In general, the tracks on this album are not unlike the music Troiano and Kenner wrote and played later with The James Gang - funky hard rock. Drink Your Wine is the best and most adventurous of this genre. Other tracks worth a spin are Yonge Street Party, which sounds an interesting combination of Grand Funk and The Temptations; I Miss You is a slower track whose melody and guitar work has some similarity with The Rolling Stones' Black And Blue album; and Turn Down is in a more jazzy direction with a lazy rhythm.
In February 1972, Troiano and Kenner joined The James Gang, after Joe Walsh's departure, and became leaders of this band, writing almost all the material on their Straight Shooter and Passin' Thru' albums. After these Troiano went solo making five albums between 1972-79. He also played on The Guess Who albums in 1975. Then in 1980 he was in a band called Instructions. Kenner remained with The James Gang as lead vocalist for two further albums (Bang and Miami) and also provided the percussion and vocals on the first two Troiano records.
In 1972, Glan joined John Kay (Steppenwolf)'s solo band and played on his first two solo albums. John and Glan also played on the first of Troiano's albums and later with Lou Reed, Alice Cooper, Bearfoot (in the mid-seventies) and on the second American Flyer album in 1977. A borderline case for inclusion as Glan and John became the top rhythm section in L.A. and Kenner stayed in the 'States. Only Troiano returned to work in Canada. ~ (Vernon Joynson/CA)

the Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
Bullfrog originated from Cologne circa 1976, as the amalgam of musicians from various local bands. Gerd Hoch came from Sound Edge (who also featured Zeus B. Held, later of Birth Control), Vincent Trost had played with The German Four, and Sebastian Leitner was with Lazarus Round.
They were unusually a rather heavy-handed hard-rock and melodic progressive on their albums, notable for their unusual Rod Stewart like gravel-voiced vocalist Gerd Hoch, but with little in the way of a distinctive style or originality. Really, they sounded British, not at all Krautrock, and only really of interest to hard-rock fans and Sky label collectors!

Scented Gardens of Mind:
This group formed in 1973 and soon became a subculture among Polish hippies. Their first album was a minor classic, shifting between hard rock and jazzy slow tracks. Vocalist Krzysztof Cugowski sounded like a cross between Roger Chapman and Czeslaw Niemen (who indeed played keyboards on this album). The album is now heralded as one of the best 70's albums from Poland, mainly due to the magnificent 18 minute "Jest Szalony Kon".
Przechodniem Bylem Miedzy Wami (1976) was closer to "serious rock", featuring six well-constructed songs with careful string arrangements that grow with repeated listening. The longest track "Najdzuzsza Droga" was a kind of jazzy hard rock with electric guitar, moog, sax, clavinet, strings and quiet piano segments with soulful vocals. The later albums gradually became more and more ordinary pop-rock.

ProgArchives:
Brast Burn, one of the most obscure and the most mysterious outfits in Japan, burst with only one prochronistic album into Japanese psychedelic rock scene and soon disappeared from this world. There is another report that Nakano record shop, a Japanese local specialty store of Krautrock, released two psychedelic albums from the independent label Voice Records and after a short while went bankrupt because of their debt by these releases and promotions. Anyhow there is no information except the fact Brast Burn could release their one and only album Debon in 1975 (or in late 1974) and an uncertain report Brast Burn might be a solo project by Michiro Sakurai, a Japanese unknown artist. (By the way, the other album released by Nakano record shop is Alomoni 1985 by KARUNA KHYAL, and some claim Michiro Sakurai of Brast Burn and Yoshihiro Takahashi of KARUNA KHYAL should be the identical person.) ~ Keishiro Maki, JAPAN

Cosmic Dreams:
"A little known band which made one single and a tremendous album. Their album consisted of nine standard length, blues based hard rock songs, similar to rural sounding loud rockin' bands like Reaction and Incredible Hog. Part of the album was recorded live. The great treasure of this album is the mean and growling guitar sound, with the fuzz effects exaggerated to the extreme!"
the Crack in the Cosmic Egg:
"Baumstam = Tree Trunk (for those interested). These were an obscure heavy blues-rock band, but with little individual identity, nor any real Krautrock touches, being much more English styled. Their privately issued album is sought after in collectors circles due to its scarcity, more than for its musical content. Despite what Dag Erik Asbjornsen says about these - which seems to describe a completely different album - in his book "Cosmic Dreams At Play", we weren't impressed, as ON TOUR sounds much like an average late-1960's British hard-rock album.
In 2004, Ulrich, Volker and Gerhardt reformed the band, with new members: Adi and Anna, and have apparently made the new album."

ItalianProg:
Often described as a prog group, Capricorn College are much closer to the standard early 70's Italian melodic pop groups than to anything progressive.
Led by composer Mario Barigazzi, much active since the 60's under the surname Barimar, the group released two albums on the Kansas label, both containing an unimpressive mix of commercial pop with trivial lyrics and instrumental parts with light prog influences.
The first one, Orfeo 2000, is the best of the two, especially in the instrumental tracks, while the second one, released as Barimar & Capricorn College, contains 12 shorter songs.
